A friend of my flatmate came round last night. She was upset that her boyfriend of quite some time only meets her once a week and won't invest more in their relationship. She keeps giving him one more chance, he agrees to everything then does nothing. She keeps going round for their once a week visit. The worst that can happen for him is that she walks off, and he doesn't like her that much anyway so no bit loss for him. Otherwise, he keeps getting an easy shag every Wednesday without having to lift a finger... she also likes going to Palace matches so I might give cucking her number (although she is quite annoyiong). Anyway, Roy keeps keeping us up, which is what Parish wants, he keeps asking for investment, Parish keeps saying no becuase he doesn't really want to invest in Roy. The worst that will happen for Parish is the Roy will walk. He can then bring someone new in knowing he's saved up some cash for transfers to entice a decent manager in. Repeat every couple of years. Parish originally planned to spend in ' cycles ' but has been unable to stick to that in order to keep Palace in the Premier League. Yours is an interesting theory but I don't think it stacks up. Parish can't legislate for when Roy decides to walk...he may have only recently agreed another 12 months but he could change his mind and then at short notice Parish has to recruit a new manager and free up a transfer kitty which may or may not exist. Only twice have Palace brought in a group of players in recent times as I recall. The shower of s***e under Holloway and then the signings under Allardyce.

Maybe Parish is utterly convinced of Roy being true to his word and that he will fulfil his contract regardless of what happens. I don't know his history enough to know whether he has ever walked of his own volition before.

I'd bet every manager is always asking for more than he gets, that's human nature. A bit of a case of Occam's Razor. We haven't spent money because we don't have it.

The cycles was a decent plan, but things go wrong and you have to firefight a lot of the time when you are punching above your weight. Under Pardew I thought we were going for one marquee signing per transfer window. Which also seemed a good stratergy, as long as we built the team around the players we signed. Roy has never walked. He's said before in previous jobs that he should have resigned but was to arrogant. His words not mine.

Back him or sack him. Sack him, back the new guy. No more McCarthy and Kouyate types please. Prioritise areas in need, it's not rocket science.

That was one of the points I have been making - having a manager on a short term deal hardly lends itself to a policy of driving down the age of the squad by recruiting younger players that the manager won't be there to develop. Could be nothing in it, but equally it could be a way of parting company without actually having to sack Roy which I think would be a sad ending considering the good he has done over the course of his tenure.

I don't have a 'Hotline' to the hierarchy whereby I am in receipt of a running commentary about the latest events at the club but the expectancy has been that Hodgson would be in situ for the start of the season. Edited by Willo (24 Jul 2020 9.42am)

Let’s face it the Mail would only have to read these pages to get this story up and running.
