Yeah, considering the lack of strength we have around the opening position it seems likely that Sibley will get a tour place. It looks possible/probable that Pope will get a recall.....did I mention I'd like to see Hain given a look? I'm hoping that Ed Smith takes some firm decisions going into the winter tours on areas like Anderson and the whole Bairstow/Buttler/Foakes wicket keeping situation.....I for one don't think Bairstow is the best option there. We all have our favourites for inclusion and as always the tour squads will make for fascinating reading.

I didn't want to start a new thread to discuss the central contracts but Jofra Archer has finished his amazing first season as an honorary Englishman by being awarded a central contract. The only oddity that I could see was Joe Denly who was awarded a white ball contract despite not being in the World Cup squad but not a red ball contract despite playing in the Ashes series.

The England set up all comes across as a bit of a clique. If you look at even our established batsman, outside of Root it's a sea of thirty averages and quite frankly getting dropped appears to be quite an achievement.

It's odd that Jonny Bairstow is given a lucrative central contract covering red and white ball cricket then a week later is dropped from the test squad to tour New Zealand. It's even odder that Ben Foakes isn't included in the squad

Yes the central contracts awarded to Denly and Bairstow are a bit of a mystery given Denly plays in the test side but not even in the World Cup squad, and Bairstow not making the plane to NZ.

I don't think that anyone will disagree with that and as the NZ tests won't count towards the World Test Championships it's a good time to try them out although I doubt whether they will all get a game

I just don't get it with Denly....He's 33 and a half has a test average of 28 after 8 matches.
