Meyer had a poor game and I am a fan of his, think we have missed Cabaye and Loftus-cheek more than I thought, none of our midfielders are good on the ball, there better when defending, maybe 4-4-2 at home, Benteke and Bats up front, wilf and Townie wide, two kickers in midfield, launch it, Coppell style RLCs ability to receive the ball under pressure and maintain possession to beat a player or start an attack was a huge part of our best performances last season. If we ever have a chance of getting him I would take it in an instance...Sadly I think that boat has sailed. Unless Sarri keeps his job and continues to overlook some of Chelsea's most talented players.

I was massively disappointed by Meyer on Saturday. He looked like a player who's really lost his way. Sad.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Poor old Roy can't win with some of you. He played Meyer, as many people were demanding, and now - following a poor 45 minutes it was the wrong type of game for him ! It looks like he was over hyped to begin with. If he was as good as he was made out to be, he would have gone to a bigger club. He just doesn't look a good fit for us.

Sick and tired of watching the mismanagement of Max Meyer. I hope he leaves Palace asap and gets his career back on track, and perhaps in years to come Roy will understand what he has done. Hodgson could write an essay on how to NOT properly integrate foreign signings into the side. Patchy game time, deployed in the wrong position and system, and the only player all year to be subbed off at half time I believe. Talk about destroying a player's confidence completely and utterly. The whole team was rubbish in the first half on Saturday, as we sleep walked through yet another first half at home. Schlupp had a far worse half, yet it is Meyer who gets subbed and now carries the can for how bad that half was, totally unfairly. Why on earth did we sign the player in the first place when he is too lightweight for Roy and Hodgson plays long ball tactics half the time. We were hoofing the ball up to Batshuayi and bypassing the midfield way too often. Michy is not good enough in the air and its yet another example of the wrong setup by Hodgson. It finally started to work once Benteke was in there. Meyer is a high class player, Roy seems incapable of playing to his strengths and prefers to deploy him in the incorrect position and with a job of work to do that he is no good at. Let him leave and get his confidence back at a team managed by someone who takes the shackles off and lets players express themselves, and backs them, not puts a target on their back with the earliest substitution all year.

I stand by it ! I want Max to do well and he clearly has talent, but he's not right for the way Hodgson sets his teams up. And we all know that team shape is Hodgson's obsession. So if he can't see a way to accommodate Meyer, so be it. As I said, as things stand he doesn't look a good fit for us. Another manager may well get far more out of him by playing a different way.

So is it Hodgon's fault that he under performs?

I’ll second that. We may not be playing the style to suit Meyer but I still haven’t seen anything to get excited about in any of the starts he’s made. He has looked ok when coming on as a sub for the last 20 mins or so but when starting he has been very average. So much hype and a very big weekly wage and people have been crying out for him to start against one of the lesser teams but he did nothing on Saturday and Jimmy Mac was more effective and in the circumstances Roy made the correct call at half time.

I disagree with anyone saying Huddersfield home was not the right game for Meyer. If he's as good as all that he should be bossing that standard of oppo and providing the moments of quality to unlock a solid defensive structure.

If: A - his confidence wasn't shot through total mismanagement and a failure to give him an actual run of games to get into a rhythm and integrate into the premier league effectively. B - Roy would actually play him in the correct position. C - Roy would deploy a tactical system with REMOTELY plays to his strengths. D - Roy's use of him showed that even remotely, he wanted to actually sign the guy. E - Roy wouldn't disrespect him by subbing him of at half time which he NEVER does. If I was Max Meyer I would be sitting and waiting to get the F away from Roy Hodgson.

Agree Meyer may want to leave, if he does I wish him well. Life goes on.
