Totally agree. Although feel it works the other way too. Because he cost 30m, people think he cant or wont be dropped. If we had another out and out striker he would have been dropped like its hot a long time ago.[/quote]

Only if that striker was playing well , contributing to the team scoring goals and scoring goals himself.

What like Benteke you mean? So at worst a like for like replacement. Just think if we had say Frazier Campbell for example he would have had a run in the team by now. I think we have all lowered our expectations of what we expect from a striker. Just because he knocks a ball on, wins some headers we think he has contributed enough. I just dont think it is enough. He has been seriously disappointing.

What’s his price got to do with whether or not he should be dropped? You can criticise his form but one thing I’ll never understand is the way some fans will give less support to anyone seen as expensive.

Because when you pay that much, and he earns that much, you expect more. Simple really.

He did score 15 PL goals for us last season in a team that only secured safety right at the end of the season so this was no mean feat.

Of course this season has been different but we did get off to a torrid start and he had been out injured.Besides in recent games he has improved - setup MacArthur for his goal at Southampton, provided that good pass to Sako on Saturday and whilst he didn't score has got into good positions in the box to head the ball.

We know what he is capable of so it is all the more frustrating that he hasn't performed to his usual standards this season.Despite this I certainly wouldn't want a situation whereby Crouch is our main striker with Benteke at another club !

So if he was on less money, you wouldn't drop him? Glad you've thought it through.

They were 2 seperate statements, hence the full stop.
1. He's a 30m striker who's only scored 1 goal all season. (Surely we should expect more)
2. If he was at any other premiership club he'd have been dropped.(no matter what we paid for him)
Understand now?

“He's a 30m striker who's scored 1 goal all season. If he was in any other team in the premiership he'd be dropped”

It’s a statement and a conclusion. Clearly you were implying that that a return of 1 goal, for that money means he should be dropped. Good that you’ve realised your mistake though.

Well yes he would have to play well but score goals of his own.
For instance Glen Murray has five goals for Brighton but they are now below us.
I would rather be playing like we are with Benteke struggling to score because he can start scoring again and we will be even better.
Will Glen get five more goals this season and if he does will those goals keep them up ?
What if Brighton got a better quality front man that scored less than five goals but enabled the team to play more cohesive and enabled others to score more ?
It's a conundrum.

Yes I take you point. My rebuttal to that would be... the main differentiator is we've got Zaha!

I think you are massively overstating bentekes impact on the team. There have been games where it felt like we were playing with 10 men. Zaha is our main man without him we'd of been dead and burried a long time ago.
