I think he thinks the police make mistakes occasionally but that is OK. My view FWIW is that they make mistakes frequently and that is not OK. I also think a sizeable minority of polis are thick as pigs***.

My view prior to Tuesday was the police only pick on you if your an arsehole looking for trouble and if a copper goes in hard you probably deserve it. That view has now changed and some of them were little more than aged thugs hiding behind a uniform who thought their s*** didn't stink and they were a cut above us. Can I just add all those ironically outside were peaceful and behaving.

When I was a young girl my Mother said to me.. You listen here kid you're CPFC

On average they are right 98% of the time which is a very high percentage and very admirable given they make split second decisions with the naked eye in fast moving incidents without the useof 'Slow-Mo'

In general, across all professions and occupations one could say there is always room for improvement.

On that note, I bid you all 'Goodnight' as it is high time that I go to bed.Take care one and all.

Well let's see.

Once a bunch of thugs tried to chuck me down the stairs at Putney station. There was a BTP plod there so I complained to him. He threatened to nick me because he didn't like the music he could just about detect coming from my earphones. It was Mozart.

A couple of hoodlums tried to nick my takeaway whilst I was walking up the Nitshill Road in Glasgow. One of them hit me with a bottle and the other kicked me and made a grab for it. I called the police. The police came to my house and told me it was my fault for being drunk. I hadn't had a drop and was as sober as a judge.

I missed a commection at Waverley station because the incoming train was late so I went to the operator's office to complain. Ten minutes after I left the pigs hauled me off the next train, threatened me with life imprisonment (I am not making this up), took my details, told me I wouldn't be reported to the Fiscal if I promised to "not so much as fart" on the train, and after I had so promised, they read me the caution and reported me to the Fiscal anyway for "shouting at the office staff". I had laryngitis and couldn't speak. It was so bad that I had to tell them my name three times because they couldn't hear me. I really am not making this up.

A police car pulled up next to me in Burnt Ash Lane, in Bromley, and the officers jumped out and started searching me because they had "seen me running from a building carrying a package". The building was the fish-and-chip shop opposite St Andrew's Church and the package was my dinner.

A drunken thug threatened me and gave me racist abuse all the way from Stirling to Glasgow on the train, late at night. At one point he went to the bog and whilst he was in there I managed to get hold of the guard and had him call the polis; and he said he would get them to meet the train at Queen St. Although he subsequently swore he had done this, they never turned up. The thug then followed me out of the station and up towards Garnethill where I lived, shouting abuse after me as I went, leaving me to try and lose him in the little goose streets. In the end I had to dive into the 24-7 on Sauchiehall St to lose him.

A fraudster phoned me up at home and attempted to obtain my bank details by posing as someone from the FSA. I contacted the police. They told me to pi** off and stop wasting their time. Two weeks later it was reported in the local Advertiser that a number of elderly people had been fleeced by someone pretending to represent the FSA.

That lot's just for starters and doesn't even mention the bellend at the top of our street who causes all sorts of s*** and bullies everyone and is reported to the polis time and time again but for some reason never gets nicked no matter what he does.

So, Willo, don't talk to me about the f***ing polis.

God, I also think they're thick as sh1t and fvcking useless but that lot is something else.

The people you hear from childhood who've gone into the police confirms the intelligence level.

This game should have been an early Saturday lunchtime kick off, why they have it as a midweek night game christ knows, and if someone says " because of Police advise" we know how often those bell-ends get it wrong!

chateauferret - it wasn't until your 5th anecdote that I realised these weren't all things that happened on the same night

Probably the worst match against Brighton for as long as I can remember.

^^ That cheered me up. Well played, Sir

Who came out winners on Tuesday night ?
* The reduced number of fans ?
* The clubs ?
* The poor stewards who got injured ?
* Residents who had their property damaged (artwork of Brighton Captain on side of house)

As ever the police win. By the provocative allocation of tickets, draconian travel arrangements (kettling),overtime - and then a reaction that gets more overtime for future fixtures.
This was all police-generated provocative tactics.

Ironic, that I was speaking to a retired police Inspector last week , who queried the legality of 'kettling'. He didn't see how you could stop citizens going about their legal business on a public footpath/transport/facility, without the accusation of false arrest/imprisonment/assault being directed at police.
I would love to see their actions subject to a legal response. Maybe SW16girl knows a bit more about it, or why such an action has not been put before the courts before.

I disengage, I turn the page.

Is it because the overtime rate is higher for midweek evenings, compared to Saturday afternoons ?

I have a favourite joke (BMW & Police stop). Member of BTP delighted - Met lady and gent unimpressed. It depends where and when your contact may be, and whether the officer feels under peer pressure to be seen to deal with a situation. As with all of us bad days area fact of life.

My only surprise is that they didn't build another wall like they did in the Holmesdale road a few years back! The Police are getting more and more draconian with their tactics!

The legality of kettling has been challenged several times and gone as far as the EU Court of Human Rights. What is perhaps interesting is that it is only deemed appropriate when there is an imminent threat of serious disorder!

I also concur with many of the thoughts in this thread on our law enforcement. Can’t go into detail as involved in an ongoing case now but suffice to say the actions and attitude of essentially a thug in a uniform has caused huge, potentially life changing problems.

Not all of them are bad but my god there are many, many rotten apples.

What is interesting is how poor our support was on the night, why is that?

Last time I went it was the same and also coins were thrown at the keeper.

I didn't enjoy the experience of getting there, of the Palace fans around me and especially of getting out again. As a result I won't go again.

I wonder if lots of the regular supporters did the same, leaving the way open for some 'irregulars' who had a different agenda.

In any case, I doubt many of us on here will bother again so at least BHA will lose some business from their incompetence.

Exactly how did irregulars get tickets? You have to be very high up on the loyalty points to get a ticket in the first place. Things happen at Brighton-Palace games that is a given but locking out genuine fans with tickets for the actions of the HF has really pissed me off. They got in, played up inside whilst well behaved fans were being pushed around and hit by the Police outside. I despise the HF more than ever now, little boys bringing shame to our club and will no doubt be the cause of away fans coming to Selhurst to have a pop at our fans. Should all be banned. They want to act like morons they need to be punished for it.
