Doesn't a break clause mean either party can terminate a contract without giving a reason? I wasn't under the impression that the break clause were circumscribed.

Totally gutted Sam's gone, but after what has happened in the past with Pulis, I will be exercising the option of not saying thank you for his efforts and I will not be abusing him for leaving the club. Football is a dirty business that has no loyalty. The one real person who has to have the best interests for the club is the chairman, so I will refuse to rise to what people have said about his time being up and he needs to step down. Allardyce has put his statement out and we can only try to take it for what it is and run with it as fans for fear of assuming we have another Pulis situation on our hands. I for one am delighted we aren't signing Defoe on £130k a week and Terry on £100k a week, if this has anything to do with Sam stepping down then fine by me. Sam has done a great job but his stock is now arguably the highest it's ever been after changing opinions since the England debacle. I understand going out at the top, but what happens when another side are dragging down in 16th at Christmas 2 points off the drop and he gets a nice offer to go in and turn it around. Possibly at our expense too. He signed a two and a half year deal, not one until the end of the season. This is why I feel it stinks a little. I have no evidence, just reliable Twitter feeds and a hunch. No manager is bigger than the club. Crystal Palace was just another job for Fat Sam and he did it superbly. He will be remembered and loved depending on the next 6 months. Whoever comes in will have my usual support and I trust the board. Up the Palace !

Although sad for us,I can fully understand his reasons for wanting retirement and to leave on a high.

Well well well. Nothing untoward about telling lies to get your hands on £2 million, TP is a stand up guy Even if: The original ruling found Pulis’s standards of conduct had “been shown to be disgraceful”

Apparently, he knew someone involved in the Manchester bombing and decided life is too short and wants to spend more time with his family.

I think the club should have issued a statement yesterday. Hoping for one very soon today. Probably won't be more than a few thanks and assurances but right now, we look totally passive. I've no idea why Allardyce didn't arrange the publicisation of his departure with the club - from the look of Townsend's tweet, the players didn't know, and although I accept that he's got every right to retire if he's telling the truth about his motives, surely he could have negotiated this process with the club rather than rushing out.

I said last night I thought manchester had something to do with it. I thought possibly because they were there the day before and it was all a bit close for comfort . Felt it was his lightbulb moment. A few people laughed at me for saying it. Didn't know he knew someone involved. Makes complete sense

If does genuinely retire from football then I have no problem and will look back fondly on his brief time at Palace. If he turns up in another job in 6 months - 1 years time then it will completely sour how I feel about him. Time will tell
