There is nothing wrong with playing 3 at the back and 1 up-front at home. Chelsea have played the same system home and away all season. (No I know we are not Chelsea but the system can work home and/or away.)

We did not lose because the players didn't try or because of the system. We made a bad mistake for the first goal and for nearly half an hour the team looked like we were back in it. The second goal completely sapped the confidence and before you know it we have conceded a hat-full. This has happened to loads of teams over the years.

I liked what SA said after the game and it gave me some hope that maybe all is not lost. Hope we can get our new recruits into the team for Stoke and we might just have a chance

Formation is not the set up. I have no problem with 4-5-1 or 3-5-2, but the personel and the jobs assigned seemed exactly the same as midweek and far too conservative for me. I know it could of worked out differently if we didn't hand them two goals, especially two such very soft goals, but as usual we shot ourselves in the foot.

winning team with no injuries demand an unchanged team. at least SA said the right things in the post-match interview. no hiding the truth.

new signing ain't the answer its the pathetic egos of the players WE already have that's the problem we are going down and wouldn't be surprised if we do a wolves and go down to league one its happened before and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to palace wins breed confidence and the way we are going its definitely a possibility

Just back from the game.
That was horrible.
The worse thing for me was the way so many Palace fans are so quick to turn on their own team. Even a square pass in the face of a packed defence attracted huge moans.
The booing is self-destructive. If you want to demoralise your own team and boost the oppo, that's what you do. It made us fans look poor and fair-weather, light-weights.
I hate it and feel that part of the fans efforts today was worse than what I saw on the pitch.
My friends know I'm Palace, so now I'll be associated with a light-weight bunch of footy fans.
My opinion

This comment - seriously? You want a round of applause at half time?

The players have demoralised me for 18 months.

Was shocked and disappointed to hear some supporters sing for Speroni, that's gonna do Hennessy a lot of good during the match, leave the name calling till after the game has ended

This formation can work well but it just doesn't work for us. Our main strength over the past few years has been our players on the wing but with this system it means that we only really have one player who is wide and no real support for them. I couldn't really tell where Wilf and Macca had been told to play, they were not able to be effective and this was partly due to the fact that Punch and Cabaye/Ledders were way too deep. Having wingbacks instead of full backs didn't really work defensively either, they kept getting caught up the field (well ward more than Patrick). Also even with Wilf and Macca behind Benteke, he was still isolated

One of Chelsea's back 3 defenders is Azpilicueta, who is actually a fullback. The right wing is Moses, an attacking player. Notice the difference between him and Ward?? On the left, they have another player great going forward- Marcos Alonso.
Their 2 defensive midfielders have been box-to-box this season, with more assists than any other central midfielders.

So there's a difference between what Chelsea plays and what Palace plays. Look at Hull, they've been the worst side using 3-5-2. New manager, switched to 4-4-2 and beat Liverpool and drew with United.
So 3-5-2 is only very rarely a system that gets you somewhere in the championship (where you need to accumulate points). In cup competitions it's another discussion, I agree

Agreed, before the collapse. Certainly doesn't help

The biggest problem we've got is that Sunderland Hull and Swansea have all improved and most damning is that they are up for the fight whereas we are not and if you havent got that at the bottom you are finished

I've just got home following the game, like many others I have to travel a good distance to attend "home" games. The traveling time does give you time to reflect on the game.

Today's performance was beyond poor. The reaction of the fans at half time was the worst I've ever seen at selhurst in 44 years of having a season ticket. It may well have been over the top but showed that the supporters care. On the day the players simply weren't up for the fight, some of the performances were to say the least unprofessional. it would be easy to critiscise, god knows we could all name 5 players who shouldn't be in the team for the next match. It won't help. I would like to hear something from the team, not the manager, the team apologising for that display. It's time the team stood up to be counted. We can all have a bad day but the lack of effort in the last 15 minutes of the first half was inexcusable.
