IF West Brom accept an offer and he refuses to move with a view to seeing out his contract I doubt he'll play for them again. Not even on the bench if his manager & chairman are true to form.

How much does he think he'll be worth having not kicked a ball in anger for 12 months? Nothing like his current 'value' and WBA would still be entitled to the same level of compensation.

I would like to think this is a young man that just wants to play regular football and make his way into the national side. The way he has managed over the last couple of years is a prime example of how not to manage a young talent. If I worked for someone who treated me that way I'd walk.

Well you might be prophetic, but you are certainly not correct.

"But in a new twist to the long-running saga involving the West Brom striker, there are reports this evening (Friday) that Berahino would be happy to run down the final year of his contract and leave the club on a free next summer."

looks like i am correct

Not only have you quoted selectively from that article you've ignored the most important fact. His club have turned down offers for him so he's not been in a position to accept an offer to play elsewhere...so you may be correct about something in your mind but you've not shown how he's a mercenary.

"Would be" is a fair way from "wants to".

Knowing how selective journos can be I would not be surprised if the actual quote was "Berahino would be happy to run down the final year of his contract and leave the club on a free next summer but he would prefer to be playing regular first team football at a well managed club where he was appreciated."

Could it not be that Berahino is trying to force a move? If the bloke is worth £25m and West Brom are refusing to sell him for £20m, then why shouldn't Berahino run his Contract down and then go for a Tribunal fee next year?

Why is he being mercenary? He hasn't turned us down so that he can get a big signing on fee at the end of the season.

I Think your'e right, its a pointed reminder to WBA that they could lose him for free. But WBA won't sell unlil they get someone in to replace him, same with Wetspam with Sakho....

It isn't even a new twist, it is the same twist as the one that you posted earlier today.

What the article says is:

"Stoke City and Crystal Palace are keen on signing Berahino and have both seen bids for the player rejected with West Brom reluctant to selling him.

As a result of West Brom's stance, Berahino is now prepared to run down the final year of his contract and leave to go abroad next summer on a free transfer, sources said."

Thus, the condition precedent in the story is that West Brom are reluctant to sell him, which make them a bunch of mugs. What it does not say is that Berahino is refusing to leave because he wants to get a bumper pay day in a years time. That would make him the mercenary you say he is - you are still not right.

It's a tactic to a. complete a move away and b. ensure that clubs who agree a few with WBA offer him personal terms which will reflect how much he could be on if he runs his contract down.

Must be hard being a professional footballer.

I think that the advice that the agent is giving to Berahino is right. You have turned down WBA contract offer and the Club have turned down good offers for a second year in a row preventing you leaving. You have the option of running down your contract and moving on a free to a club of your choice.

A tribunal will set the compensation fee if that is to uk club and a fixed fee system works if he goes to europe. WBA will have a problem because if they don't play him the tribunal fee is lower as one of the criteria is number of first team games.

This stance is clearly designed to put pressure on WBA to agree a transfer

Burnley turned down a reported 12 million of Danny Ings and got £6.5m transfer fee for striker Danny Ings, with a further £1.5m in add-ons. Berahinho is likely to be less than that about £6 million

Just got to take it on the chin, i'm afraid as he's off to Stoke.
He has already settled in the Midlands and doesn't have the upheaval of a house move.Expressed interest in a move to Stoke recently in any case,so why would he chose us over them?
