You cannot seriously compare the BBC with either Netflix or Amazon Prime. No you can't. People pay for them voluntarily as opposed to under threat of prosecution.

No, different because in one the presenter admitted the inappropriate behaviour. The BBC reported his admission and the consequences. In the other nothing other than assertions had been made that were under investigation. That was reported as has been the recent statement. The BBC have been consistent, even if those who dislike them choose not to see it. The BBC have not “allowed” anything at all. They no more own the private lives of their employees than any other employer. They have a complaints procedure which doubtless will be reviewed again after this episode. Is the contention that no one at the BBC knew what Savile, Hall, etc, were up to?

Just because you don't want to it doesn't mean we all feel the same. The BBC is simply an entertainment and news broadcaster no matter how they like to dress it up. No they aren’t. They are very much more than that. They are the window that the world views us through and a much envied source of truthful and objective reporting. We would be much diminished as a country if the BBC was reduced to the level you, and others, seem to regard them.

There has been loads of speculation and I don’t doubt people must have realised later that the behaviour they recall now seems dodgy. I never met Savile but I bought a house from somebody who knew him well and whose daughter spent a lot of time in Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The stories she told me then now seem very creepy but at the time he was a national hero, raising funds for the hospital, working as a porter and getting us all to clunk-click. He duped everyone. I am much less informed about Hall but unless someone had made a complaint about Savile what were the BBC supposed to do back then? Today it would be different.

If the content is good a subscription model would succeed. If the content is bad it wouldn't be missed if it didn't succeed. It isn’t, and never has been, the argument.

I think you would be much poorer but you can do it. The BBC will continue. It will be paid for by us in some way. Better not via taxation, which allows political pressure to be mounted.

You seriously must live in some cloud cuckoo land if that's the case, i pity you. Still, at least you're down somewhere far away not to bother us.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Complete coward by getting his wife to make the statement, she should be working on taking him for all she can get. This is the full statement from his wife. Are you suggesting she is lying? I didn’t know he has a history of depression. Did you?

I think I'll cope.

No, I am saying people have made that argument. It, it, and, has, been, the, argument. Anyone who does is misrepresenting the actual reasoning.
