Got to love the modern Left! Haha, it is brilliant journalism. I do have a Times subscription, even if it does pain me slightly to line the Murdoch pocket.

Correct. Find this staggering. Full details of off the scale incompetence and government failure and it’s just met with a shrug of the shoulders. Boris has this country wrapped round his little finger.

Full article here. Chronological details of how those in charge didn’t take it seriously until it was far too late. Reads a bit like a witch hunt to me. I've no doubt that in hindsight things could have been done differently but the Government have always claimed that they have acted on scientific advice from their own scientists. All this rubbish about the Prime Minister "skipping" five cobra meetings is just political bulls***. Cobra stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A and the early meetings in connection with a health pandemic were chaired by the Secretary of State for Health who surely was the most appropriate person for the job and no doubt the Prime Minister was kept fully briefed. It would not be until March 2 — five weeks later — that Johnson would attend a Cobra meeting about the coronavirus. But by then it was almost certainly too late. The virus had sneaked into our airports, our trains, our workplaces and our homes. Britain was on course for one of the worst infections of the most insidious virus to have hit the world in a century. The implication was that all of the recent deaths have been because the Prime Minister didn't attend some Cobra meetings which again is just political point scoring as was the bit later on about the Government being left rudderless when the PM contracted the virus himself. I would be interested to see a similar hatchet job done on NHS Supply Chain discussing their gross inefficiency and internal frauds and why the latter have been kept covered up

The OFFICIAL medical advisor, Neil Ferguson, didn’t advise the government to take this seriously until March 2nd. A critical article was written on 24th January but on the 25th of January an article again by The Times said chief medical officer was confident of his decision not to take action. But in hindsight people want to blame the government for not taking warnings from unofficial medical people. However, Johnson should have been in attendance of the previous 4 cobra meetings and not getting non perishable PPE in place for any future pandemics was a failure. With preparation for BASIC equipment we are being compared to poorer European countries and far away from Germany’s preparation, whether or not they have the industry to step up. Actually we have the industry to step up but the communication between government and industry prepared to adapt tooling appears to have not happened.

Along with lots of small frauds he uncovered a biggy. It relied on the NHS not checking invoices over many years and paying them. It involved a major British company issuing those invoices without checking whether the rolling contracts were still valid. in some cases equipment was being charged for in buildings which no longer existed. The amount was well over £300 million. He negotiated a settlement with the MD of the British company and obtained a bankers draft for the amount. When he took the draft into the MOH instead of praise and congratulations he was met with hostility. The only thing on the minds of those in charge was how were the civil servants to hide their incompetence? That company is still a major supplier to the NHS. I heard this direct from the source.

I think he could bugger some on here's mother's and their response would be ' still, at least he didn't teabag her like Labour would've'.

Yup we love boris. Alternatively we could be waiting for deaths to slow down or stop then take a non biased non emotional view. But we all know what floats your boat danh. Put that cross next to labour even if it's a manaqin.

Yeh great isnt it. Cant have a go at the right and austerity now though can you. Labour wouldn't have had any dough so we are lucky really arnt we. We haven't got any "dough" now have we? It's all being borrowed. This crisis is well beyond normal tribal politics, or it really ought to be. Our politicians, in stark contrast to some elsewhere, are actually behaving pretty responsibly and trying to work together. Mistakes will have been made and realised with the benefit of hindsight. As I said a while back the Brexit deadline of 31st Jan turned out to be unfortunate as it took some eyes of the virus ball. That's life. We are all human and get things wrong. If you watched the Marr programme this morning you would have seen Gove explaining that the PM does not routinely attend Cobra meetings. The minister responsible for the area under review does and chairs them, then reports to the PM. So Johnson wasn't "missing" them at all. The most interesting interview though was with Prof Sarah Gilbert, who is leading the vaccine trial at Oxford University. She was detailed, straightforward and really positive. Try to watch it if you can. Much to be hopeful about from what she said. I definitely saw a glint of light at the end of the tunnel after hearing her. The trials should start this week and they have already recruited the volunteers. They want the government to start to plan which facilities will need to be diverted to manufacture at scale and to start to recruit and train the staff needed. Not just for us but around the world. This isn't a commercial venture but is 100% based on public health. (The interview with David Attenborough was also very good, but a different subject).
