I believe the biggest disagreement was regarding visa-free travel for some Indians, which was part of the trade deal with India

I don’t buy into traders getting their man. They’ll act on what is wrong at the time. The whole thing is a shambles because the membership chose ideology and promises over any sense they have left because they knew it was the only way of pushing this through AT THIS TIME - without any say from anyone else. Same with Truss. She’s just about smart enough to see this and ploughed ahead, which could explain the mess created. It all looks really bad how it was done and unless this kind of radical economics goes through a public vote it always will. Unfortunately we now have social media activism with ‘’Well, the alternative is Labour.’’ How about get your own house in order and then they might have some attractions again rather than hold your nose and put the cross in the box. To be fair to Sunak I was impressed with him during PMQs. He's right, he was far more realistic during his leadership campaign on finances (though I disagree with his decisions as Johnson's chancellor)....and the accusations he makes of Starmer here are also true....that guy changes his messages utterly dependent on what he thinks that audience wants to hear. Edited by Rudi Hedman (26 Oct 2022 12.40pm) I think Truss wanted to apply Thatcher economics at a time where the markets have far more power. It's just not the same political/financial world now and the debt realities gave their movements far more damage potential. I remember Thatcher's financial surgery also having massive financial pushback but there was far more separation back then. I think her chancellor had the right idea, but he was far too radical probably as he only had two years to make a discernable difference and I don't think that's realistic. Indeed, we can say that he was naive and didn't seem to understand what the power dynamics are today. Essentially, I think the financial reaction sealed his fate. Personally, I feel the view that the political and financial world aren't hand in glove is essentially misplaced.....for example, the taxpayer is in hock for any financial mistakes made...the BoE being an example in point....eleven billion just recently and much larger figures previously. All they can do realistically is print and print because the system is fecked....though they will also rise taxes and make cuts because it's unavoidable...but it's still kicking the can down the road. You see the politician, but you rarely see those behind them, until things go pear shaped and the financiers hold considerable power....As Greece found out.

I think Rishi rich was quite confident today, but the questions about non dom status and him on video saying he will take cash from poorer areas and put them in to richer areas obviously had him - he is the best they have, but his past can not be denied!

I've been quite surprised by him actually and whilst it may, and often does, not count for anything he has spoken well and I at least have some hope albeit yet to join any fan club. The 'nom dom status' and what I am guessing are very informal and perhaps 'not to be taken seriously' comments, as far as PM scandals are concerned, are at very best lightweight. I highly doubt they will factor too prominently in the tale of his legacy.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
