I think it's fair to assume that no club lodges a bid for a player without knowing: If the player is open to the move, what his contractual demands are going to be.

I wonder how long it takes to come back with a counter offer (if we want to). Obviously when you bid Millions for a person you dont just write it down on a fag packet but assuming we have already done the admin work to offer the £23m + Addons, all we need to do is is find the document, croos out the 23 and write something more sensible.

But that's the point, there will be that element of doubt. Perhaps I'm totally wrong but I assumed that was why these tedious transfer sagas always seem to end in an undisclosed fee, so neither side ends up looking like they've lost the negotiation.
