What do we need from a new tory PM after 12 years. New faces, talent, bright new promotions, ideas. Instead its the same old faces bar a few who have failed again and again. They look like a clear-out of Grace Bros.

I think Rishi rich has made his first mistake and given Sir Keir some ammo for tomorrows pmq"s,by pandering to the ERG, he has let a "code breaker" back after 6 days- and we don"t know how many times it happened- THAT IS A D.I.S.G.R.A.C.E!

Bringing 'integrity' to Downing Street he seems to have thrown it away on his first day. Quite extraordinary. Send him a volley of CP emoticons.

Johnson was the only Tory who could claim a genuine electoral mandate. Sunak could not even beat Truss in an election. Untrue. It was the Tory MPs who achieved the mandate. They achieved a big majority, so unless some defect they still hold it. The PM leads them. However often they change who it is. Truss came into number 10 following a specific process. To have then replaced in such a ludicrously short period of time, and replaced by the man she beat, is rubbing our faces in it. Truss was not the choice of the MPs. She was imposed on them by an unelected, unrepresentative group of activists. What was ludicrous was what she did. Every action is followed by a reaction, but although Truss was told what the reactions would be, she ignored them. Turning to who was our elected representative's, and therefore our, choice makes perfect sense. And Sunak is a place holder. He cannot win an election. There was no guarantee with Johnson either but the man can get people out to vote. People can throw every kind of slur at him, and the vast majority are more than justified, but the man does have a certain political charisma which means he can turn votes around. Time will tell with Sunak, but no amount of charisma can compensate for the lack of integrity and morality present in Johnson. He is more suited to a circus than to high office. The Tories have seemingly engineered a situation in which a Labour Government is as good on assured come the next election. And this is with a 70 plus majority. Something is truly odd. No-one engineered this. The level of organisation needed to control the disparate factions simply isn't there. It happened because of a series of negative events. Firstly, Brexit caused problems, some expected, some not, many still ongoing. Then the pandemic. Then the war in Ukraine. All of this with the background of Johnson damaging his reputation in the country, and losing the confidence of the MPs. Then the stupidity of Truss, the way she was appointed and the damage she has done, was the final straw.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

'In many ways, Rishi Sunak won his new job because investors used the markets to push for change.' That's the opening line in this Bloomberg article entitled: "Hedge funds get their first prime minister in UK’s Rishi Sunak. (Paul Embery tweet)

I know that it's the job of lefties to find fault with everything but she was sacked for disagreeing with Liz Truss over immigration policy and the sending of an email from her private email address was just a convenient excuse
