With businessmen it's like a battle of the egos, they have both got to look as though they have got the best deal. They are more likely to be working on a deal where both sides come out favourably Move on from this farce. Let Liverpool pay 120 k a week for a player doing nothing. Thats good business. Look elsewhere. Get Sissoko in, and a couple of other strikers. Berahino and Bony!

Ever since this transfer window has opened we have been linked to Benteke. Liverpool have stated right from the off they are not willing to listen to any offers lower than what they are demanding . We have known this right from the start, basically they have something we are interested in, so we can come in with all sorts of offers and add on, but the bottom line is that Liverpool are not going to budge. So it's a case of we either pay up or shut up and move on.

SP is playing the business game in a football world. he has little knowledge of how to broker this deal with a club like Liverpool. Selling Bolasie before bringing in Benteke was a mistake. it just showed them that we have money to spend, made our position weaker and makes our constant haggling over 3-4 mill seem insulting (which vs 30mill isn't that much). If 32m is too expensive, then 26m is as well. For it to go on so long, and for us to still be asking for dodgy deals, is a bit embarrassing tbh. I seriously think we should hold off critism until September 1st, and see who has come onboard and what their quality is like. Its a real dilemma between plunging in and getting our man, but over the odds in this inflated market, and holding back and pushing through a relatively good value deal. Parish has done pretty well so far, but the most challenging still lies ahead. Nerves of steel required! I am sure there are plans b, c and d in place!

Have we not done rather well with respect to sales in "this inflated market"?

Ever wondered why nobody else is submitting bids for the guy? There's so much money amongst the middle pack in the division, and a lot of those clubs need a striker. None of them are after Benteke though. I'm not saying that he's not a great player, but there will be good reasons that we seem to be the only club really pushing the boat out.
It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. - John Bostock (Nov 2007) |

A couple of million pounds may not sound a lot to all of us so rich that we could just get it out from the bank-machine. I actually think it is well worth saving a few mil on the deal. If on deadline day Benteke is still at Liverpool they would have to either send him on loan where he could fail and de-value or pay his wages for the year which would amount to several million pounds.

I think the £32m deal we agreed for another striker might have shown that already. There is clearly negotiation to be had but the add ons being described in the media would be laughable.

Spot on, it's not the fact they're negotiating it's the add-on deal that Sky and the BBC are reporting. They don't need to sell and can wait another year if they want to. We do need someone, we really do. Either get serious or walk away. We still need an attacking midfielder and a centre back and even perhaps a left back after this too!

So far as I can tell we are gambling our premier league future (worth 170 mil a season*) over 2 million worth of haggling. Seems absolutely ludicrous.
