Here is a poll conducted by a 'Neoliberal' right wing periodical, giving the Tories a 17% lead:

This is where one, unelected, Corbyn acolytes lives: It's a world away from those they claim to support and further evidence of how detached they are from the reality ordinary people experience on a daily basis.

By Corbyn acolyte, you mean incredibly successful barrister who has been involved in politics for years? So not a Corbyn acolyte at all?

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

Those on the Left are always faced with the dilemma. Do you do what is right for society - and grammar schools are definitively wrong for society - or do you do what is right for your own flesh and blood? It's a decision that many struggle with. It's a struggle my own parents were faced with, and one I will be faced with as well (although I think I am less dogmatic about it). The hypocrisy on the Right - demanding a smaller state, while happily accepting state education, state pensions, and state healthcare - is the same. But the idea that the wealthy can't be interested in the improvement of the poor is ridiculous. I should also say she doesn't have to be that wealthy to afford that house (although she is very successful so I would think she is wealthy). Had she bought a house for a relatively low sum a number of years ago, you don't need much to be able to step up. I have friends who bought properties in Hackney, Finsbury Park, etc. for a pittance a number of years ago which suddenly allows them to buy houses worth comfortably over a million just because of rises in house prices.

She is, politically, a Corbyn acolyte, who appears to be prepared to sacrifice her convictions for a political career: She is a rich woman playing politics because she can afford to.

I agree 100%, but when it's a Tory apparently they are just too rich to know what it is like for the ordinary man/woman For me, Grammar schools are a bit like private medicine. Used correctly it frees resources for the rest of us and it is in affect a voluntary tax on the wealthy. The rub of course is ensuring that they are used correctly

As an aside, whilst I rarely agreed with Shami Chakrabarti, I always had respect for her. It does now feel like she has sold her soul for 13 pieces of silver
