The man signed a contract. He has to honour it.

City can sell Alvarez and sign a player equally good.

Can we sign a player as good as Guehi?

Will the business minds on here only be happy when we are circling the Premier League plug hole once again?

Very very naive. In contractual terms and legal terms yes. In reality? On so many levels no

I think it’s great that SP has said his piece today on sky- it adds some clarity and i think portrays our club in a positive light . I know he has his fair share of critics on here but I think he conducts himself impeccably in the media and articulates/ demonstrates the values and sentiment of Palace really well. I think he deserves credit for that.

Okay - the reality is that players of such talent will want to move onto the big boys at some point - we just have to make sure we maximise the benefit to Palace and savour them while we can…….and wait for Dougie to find the next new superstar in waiting!

You assume that he wants to leave.

Players are employees and also assets. The contract you sign is binding. The club will be in the best position to assess the situation as to the attitude of the player and his value. Not you or I.

According to Parish, he is putting no pressure on the club to leave.
Guehi is laughing either way. His future is a bright one. Baring disaster, he will move on sooner or later. He knows that he is a maximum of two seasons away from a free move virtually anywhere he wants. He is 24. I doubt that Newcastle is his ultimate desire.

Your whole argument is built on the premise that we can't buy our own top quality players, but Wharton is proof that we can... unless you're suggesting he drastically developed in 16 games?

Wharton became a superstar player when he proved himself in the Premier League with us.
He might have been a flop. We don't know how he will progress going forward.

You are right. That is my premise.

1. No he isn't, he is just upping the value before he is sold
2. Mateta needs giving a new contract immediately, Eze has 3 years left on his contract, so don't sell, unless there is a release clause, Wharton is contracted until 2029, all three of them are key players, Guehi is not.

What would you expect him to do?

You seem more interested in our business dealings than our football.

Very odd.

Every player has a price, but we need to put big price tags on our stars to deter predators. Even if we want to sell them at the right time, we shouldn't just cave in to derisory offers.

Guehi will fetch a good price next season or give us two more years of service.

Newcastle can put up or shut up.

Very good interview by Steve Parish. He has made it clear we will not be considering any offer below super star valuation which is what it should be for Guehi. He is yet another rare find by us brilliantly nurtured into a top flight player by us.
During the Euros he emerged as a top global player, with unquestionable super star value. To make it hard for us to say no, the offer would have to start with a seven.
Newcastle need to realise that Steve is being totally realistic and carefully reconsider their offer if they want one of the top defenders in the world.

If Newcastle do not seize this rare opportunity, they will struggle to cover their long standing defensive injuries which could easily result in us ending higher up the table than them.
Very interesting situation. We are certainly in command of this from the sounds of Parish.

Well SP has drawn a line in the sand now, and its Newcastles move. Personally I think other clubs think we are a soft touch after Olise going for the amount he did. That release clause really did for us there and I like the fact that SP is making a stand.

As for Fulham wanting Andersen for 20 million they can just f*** off!

Avoiding the business it what has got us into two administrations in the past, i expect Parish, who i rate highly, to get as much as he can and sell him before the window closes, Andersen, Eze, Wharton, Mateta and Muñoz are key players and vital to keep, all bought relatively cheaply, Guehi is not a key player and easily replaceable for about 20m

I have not had the opportunity to view the interview, however I am led to believe that Guehi has not been thumping on Steve's door and vociferously requesting a move.

In terms of his ability, someone averred he was one of the "Top defenders in the world".Whilst I recognise his qualities, I do not view him in such exalted company.
Perhaps in time, with greater experience, I will conclude that he has reached such a level.

In which case, Newcastle could buy that £20 million player and save themselves £50 million.
Do you read your own posts? You and I might think that Guehi is overrated, but those in the game disagree.

Sure, we can replace him, like we have replaced Olise with Sarr.
Sarr is no Olise.

Parish usually plays his cards fairly close to his chest and it’s not typical for him to give an interview of this nature.

However, information appears to have been drip fed in recent weeks by Newcastle, Guehi’s agent or possibly both.

I think Parish has decided enough is enough and made Palace’s stance clear.
It still looks to be in the negotiation phase if I’m honest.
There’s no outright denial or insistence that Guehi is staying , so the ball is in Newcastle’s court as to whether they increase their bid.

Newcastle have had to resist overtures for Gordon and Isak when the boot has been on the other foot and are well versed in the transfer dance.
Their newly acquired wealth does seem to have given them a sense of entitlement though and I wouldn’t be averse to see them taken down a peg or two.
