Successful if you consider context... wholly disappointing if you just assume we should win every game.

We could have beaten Man Utd in the cup final in 2016 - I don't know how many Palace fans view that campaign as 'wholly disappointing' because we came up a little short, but I'd imagine it's not many.

Regardless, I don't think there's much value in more back and forth on it - clearly the most successful manager we've had in 50+ years will forever be considered s*** by many. Unless we won a penalty shootout obviously. That would make him a great.

he's won a penalty shootout... just not the one 'that' one

"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"

We were always going to win those other ones

As stated a few posts back

2018 we did not have a great squad - yes we had kane but the rest of squad was mediorce that point

Pickford had about 6 caps but was picked as number 1,
Maguire and Stones first tournament (maguire was still a leicester player at this point)

Our left or LWB options were Ashley young and Fabian Delph

Our back up striker was Jamie Vardy (completely different profile to kane)

Sterling before and during that tournament went 21 games without scoring for England

Our midfield was made up of Henderson, Alli and Lingard (alli and Hendo were starting to become top players but lets be realistic here)

So when we played croatia in 2018, knowing football, croatia's midfield was always going to get the better.

That said 2021 we almost certainly should of won the thing and Southgate should of learnt from the croatia game in 2018, being reactionary and not proactive with subs can cost you.

2022 I think was a tight game with the french that could of gone either way - unfortunately for us we couldnt handle Griezmann and Kane misses a penlaty - I think we more than matched then in that whole game though.

I have been southgathes biggest defender but his squad picks this year have been baffling at times and his tactics are reserved - but like I said you dont win tournaments playing sexy football.

Probably the only one on here to happily take 1 - 0 if no injuries bookings goals conceded and min effort.

we you certainly have the last part. Commentators describing England as being like playing a friendly.

the first 15 minutes is showing all the tenacity & determination of a Testimonial for an old geezer.

We’re playing with an energy, enthusiasm and coherency not seen since 13:00 today in my local Wetherspoons.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It's like watching treacle.

"Don''t pass the ball forward lads remember it's sideways and backwards, and if I see anybody running they'll be in trouble."

Without doubt the most boring games at this tournament have England in them.
What a waste of time even qualifying if you don’t try to play a brand of football and we don’t have one apart from royball 2.

A drab display.

Too slow, no movement, taking the safe option.

Guehi has received the ball more than any other player and he is of course a central defender.Hogwash.

Southgate is totally clueless

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn
