All year a release clause of £60m has been constantly quoted, that appears now to be completely untrue. As usual you cannot believe anything of media sites, it 99% made up.

I accept that and wouldn't seek to dispute the points that you raise. One can take the view that it doesn't matter - the player is happy, the club makes a decent return and the contractual stipulations were met. I take a different view and don't appreciate the cynicism of signing a contract you have no intention of keeping. Originally posted by eritheagle
The long term deal he signed last year got us another season of him and an extra £20-25m on top of what we would've got if he'd gone Chelsea last year.

Like some others in earlier posts, I'm happy to take the money, wish Michael well and move on. For me, the sooner the better so we can focus on who will play up front instead of Olise and how we will spend our increased transfer budget.

Have we actually offered him a new contract yet? I'm sure his agent is very keen to move him on, but does he really want to move to a crap league? We'll see. The premier league is quickly becoming a crap league. Uncompetitive, same clubs sharing the cups and the same team winning the league 5/6 seasons.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

The problem will eventually come when the top European teams become so strong on all fronts but ultimately financial that they become uncompetitive. As you say, Man City are virtually in break away mode.

They are normally on the button with this type of news. If true I am sad to see him go but at least it's a top club and we wont be facing him. So glad it's not Chelsea.

To break up the Olise-Mateta-Eze combination would be a seripus mistake imo, I have heard all the commentators all saying if we retain our top players we could mount a challenge. Our expectations must be less. Do we ever want to succeed in the PL, or not?

The players have all the power. If he wants to go better to sell him now than wait a year in which time he form suffers because he is sulking. We also don't know what deal he did last year with the club. Did Parish say give us one more year and then you can go? If we earn a reputation of blocking players from big moves that wont help our recruitment the alternate will.

It has nothing to do with the club's ambition. Had we not agreed to release clauses in his contracts, Olise would never have come to Palace. He's a canny lad, who has immense self-confidence when it comes to his footballing ability and he believed from an early stage of his career (at Reading and possibly earlier) that he was capable of going to the top of the game. We were only ever going to be a stepping stone to a bigger club and at least Bayern Munich fits that moniker and we've had teh joy of watching him play some wonderful football, albeit not as much as we would have liked.
