I’m uneasy with this transfer. I completely buy-in and support a model of us consistently buying highly talented up-and-coming players, developing them, selling for profit and repeating the cycle. However, we seem to be missing two key parts 1. Consistent moderate investment (by Prem standards) and a Manager that risks and develops young talent. As a result, although I’d love to be delighted I’m not. I am concerned about the opportunity cost of us investing £17m which is probably what half, or at best a third, of our likely summer outlay on an unproven player. I don’t want to hear from Parish or insiders that we didn’t have the cash to sign a decent striker or winger and know we dropped £17m on a player who is unlikely to feature. Anyone else share this?

Excellent news. Let’s just hope our contract guys haven’t agreed to a ridiculously low release fee. It should either not be there or be £70m if he’s good as I think he is. 😄
