The France game will be extremely tight. I was surprised to see the bookies have France as relatively big favourites as I'd say we look the stronger side with less injuries and better form. France are missing Benzema, Pogba and Kante who I'd imagine would all usually make their starting 11. I have no concerns about the centre backs knocking it around - it's tactical to draw the opposition forward and create space behind. As dodgy as Maguire has been this season, he is playing well this WC and his distribution has always been good. I think we're well equipped to deal with Mbappe as Kyle Walker, in my opinion, is one of the best right backs in the world and has incredible pace. I would be worried if they switched Mbappe to the right and put him up against Shaw. My fear is that Southgate hasn't learnt his lesson - we'll start well, get a goal and then sit deep to try and grind out the win, eventually losing in extra time/pens. Once we've got the first, it should be easier to get the second. Not gonna get my hopes up yet as we've seen this all before with Southgate and the current squad. I think if we beat France, we'll go onto to win it. However, that's a big if.

Overall A good result last night. Thought we started well, and for the first 15-20 we looked promising, before allowing Senagal a way into the game, who attacked with a lot nore vigour and directness than we did. Our first was against the run of play by then, but it kickstarted us into gear, and we never looked back. Not sure if I'm misremebering this(as all 3 goals say otherwise), but we seemed to play better when we went long-ball, either from the keeper or from deep midfield. Those balls seemed to land at our feet more often than not. A little worrying that we Struggled to pass it out at times, and their press worked so well but glad that we weren't so rigid, and tried to go long to resolve that. Comfortable second half, when they didn't even look like scoring.

Something like that. Totally agree; we just need to take it “one game at a time” as there are “no easy games at this level”. Let’s just remember that it’s a “game of two halves” and hope we can “grind out a result” “at the end of the day”. Phew.

In my humble estimation, England were disappointing in the first 35 minutes and Senegal had two good chances to score. The opening goal 'Came out of the blue' and we never looked back once we took the lead.We fully deserved our victory. Credit to the referee whose performance was exemplary.

I am not 'Au fait' with any post-match analysis for officials at this World Cup, however any 'Forensic examination' of the performance of the referee will conclude that he was a credit to his profession. Edited by Willo (05 Dec 2022 12.54pm)

I was "over the moon" at last night's result. There are "no easy games in football" and I was also a tad worried the Senegalese fans would have been their "twelfth man", but "at the end of the day", our boys came through. *puts tin hat on and dives behind the sofa to avoid incoming heavy abuse*
