Confirmed that he’s signed for Southampton!

It’s a shame we have missed out. Hopefully we have another target in mind.

Thanks, I was still hoping that despite all the reports, he would surprise everyone and end up here.

We must not have wanted him at that price. I still think that if he scored 15 goals a season, he would have been a steal.

Ah well, on to the next one.

Really think we should have gone all out for this signing,

I've seen him twice and deff will score at least 12/15 for Southampton this season.

He would have been the piece in the jigsaw that meant the difference between a top or bottom half finish come next year.

Very disappointed we didnt get him.

Yep I'm disappointed to. Just gotta feeling this lad will do very well. Hopefully we have got something else up our sleeve. I'd hate to think we are gonna rely on Benteke and Mateta this season.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

i think lack of goals was one of our biggest problems last couple of seasons so i can see the logic of going for someone like Armstrong.

A little bit disappointed to miss out on him but to be honest who knows if we were ever actually in for him in the first place. If we were, its right we decide what we should pay and stick to it.

I would be surprised if the club didn't have an alternative target in mind. I expect Tekkers to have a good season but feel we are a little light on backup.

Still hugely excited about the season (50 years of hurt but loved every bloody minute of it) - expect 2 more incoming.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

DEspite the positive signings so far, the priority for the last 5 seasons has been a striker. Armstrong was worth the gamble and he would have delivered. Southampton will now finish top half and we shouldn’t have lost out to this lot. A real shame and the fact there nobody else out there, especially with his pace, is very disappointing. We’ll end up with no striker again, which, frankly, is unforgivable.

I will agree or disagree when the window has closed and we have or haven't signed a striker.

Wow…you seriously think that one signing makes a team top 10 when IMO I think the Saints could get relegated. Let’s not forget this is a replacement for a proven prem striker in Ings that we couldn’t have even afforded to bring to Palace. Again IMO the Saints are currently weaker than they were.

Agreed. Let's do our assessment of this window when it's closed and we see:
- who else, if anyone, we bring in. (I expect at least 2 more) and
- how we fare in our first 3 games.

We'll need more than 3 games to assess how we are, tough fixtures at the start with a brand new system and upheaval will mean we'll need at least 8-12 games before we see how and if everything we've done is going to progress nicely for the season

How right you are.

Agree with the above posts this is a real disappointment missing out on him and if it's down to the club playing hardball then we are really going to regret this one, he would've been perfect for us. Exactly what we've needed for years and who else is out there of this type of player?
