He should have put a stop to that the defence should only be allowed to produce evidence / justification that was relevant to the charge. For example the statue was structurally unsafe and I told the council that but they ignored me so in order to protect lives we pulled it down rather than it collapse on a passer by. If the defendants wished to justify their actions so be it but an expert witness was wrong. The whole thing sounds like a politically motivated fiasco.

Both were examples of mob rule of course mob rule is fine just as long as you agree with the politics behind it. Sadly I predict some idiot will damage a statue that is revered by the left and use the Bristol aqquital as a justification.
I was reading a book about the beginning of civilisation the written word was invented not because someone wanted to write love poems but to protect property. Thousands of year ago people who had accumulated wealth wanted to ensure that their society understood that it was theirs and no one else's. So property ownership and property rights were the cornerstone of civilisation. Edited by Badger11 (07 Jan 2022 11.21am)

Its shameful that there could ever have been a statue to this trafficker in human flesh. The prosecution were saying Colsons wealth was based on the enslavement of 84,000 men, women and children was immaterial. As was the fact that he was complicit in the deaths of 19,000 of them, who died, squirming in agony, chained to the decks of the Royal African Company’s slave ships. How Bristol could depict otherwise for 124 years is beyond the pale.

Communism is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions of people and they continue to die today. Do you support its headquarters being closed down in London and its flags being banned from public use and view. Will you condemn communism here in a similar manner to how you have this guy from centuries ago. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jan 2022 11.50am)

Slavery still exists in the world - surely that’s a more pressing issue?

Where do you draw the line? In Camden there is a statue to Shaka Zulu who is estimated to have been responsible for 1 million, and possibly 2 million, deaths. Slavery still exists in the world - surely that’s a more pressing issue? Yeah but Teddy, Shaka Zulu has done so much for Camden. The Zulus of course also kept and sold slaves. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jan 2022 11.50am) That's pretty ridiculous you may as well say that capitalism is responsible for all the other zillions of deaths! I didn't know that about its HQ in London, I think its pretty ridiculous are we really banning flags etc. that is something the nazis did. I don't condemn communism at all I think its a fairer more equal system.

I don't condemn communism at all I think its a fairer more equal system. The Nazis toppled statues and burned books and flags....certainly...as did the communists. In fact both shot opponents. No, the difference between capitalism and communism is that capitalism actually saved countless lives via the free market. Capitalist countries have obesity crises while communist ones do not. So while capitalism will have caused deaths via exploitation, it has saved far far more. While communism hasn't saved any, only butchered and starved. As for communism being a fairer system....If humans were perfect sure I could see some forms of communism have a 'fairness claim'....not that I'd agree. And It's certainly true that capitalism has its faults. However humans aren't ants and the practical result of communism has always been disastrous: It doesn't work. Have you read Animal Farm? The problem with communism is that people don't like being equal.

As previously stated the Berlin Wall wasn’t built to keep people out.
