But seriously, it probley will be a few games before he is introduced to match day same as Eze was . Roy doesn't throw people in until he thinks they are ready.

Agreed. He was never going to play against West Ham.

One more point

My son has watched him a lot. Says he is not great in the air, so when he plays watch us hit cross after cross.

That would be a first

He definitely played at SP a couple of times. First time I remember their fans giving him a good reception, the 2nd time they gave him a hard time.

Cheers Spider

I agree but Eze was at the start of the season with plenty of time and games to come. We're about to begin a crucial run of games we really need to be picking points up in, at least 12 from the next 7 before the tough run-in imo. A lot will depend on how we fare against West Ham tonight and Wolves this weekend. If we start this run badly, I can see Mateta coming in pronto.

With brexit unless you have earned a senior cap for your national team it could be exceedingly difficult for Mateta to earn the requisite work permit.A Premier League club has had a request for a work permit turned down by the FA already. One of the reasons given for not playing Mateta was Palace were awaiting a work permit.

He's very honest, already stating in an interview that he has come here to earn a move to a big club! I suppose if he plays well enough then it doesn't matter why he's come to the club. Bentenke came here to pay for his chain of coffee shops

I saw reference to that quote he made. It would be interesting to know what context he said that as printed quotes doesn't always give true meaning.
For example was he saying it jokingly, being sarcastic etc. Either way assuming he was being dead honest and serious, I'm not too bothered. In fact I'd treat it like when Zaha handed his transfer request in summer 2019. You want to engineer a move to a "big club", then play like you're worth it. For Mateta that means banging in goals left, right, centre, week in week out... All day long!

And really Palace hasn't had a consistent 15 goals/season striker in forever, so we can only dream that happens with Mateta. I mean let's face it, I think most people know that Haaland didn't go to Dortmund to stay forever. It was a deal done in Jan 2020 with a min release clause effective no earlier than summer 2022 i.e. Show your stuff in a bigger stage for 2.5 years with Dortmund then move on. Mateta having that similar mindset (if at all) shouldn't be an issue to any Palace fans... Beggars can't be choosers!

Very true. But I predict he’ll spend a lot of time on the bench and come on when we’re two goals down with 4 minutes to go.
I really hope I’m wrong and Roy tries to change things up and plays Eze or Bats in behind him.

I just got a feeling he would play well with Bats. Then Zaha and Eze either side. Roy will for sure keep MacArthur in midfield. So put schluppie in with him then kouyate and Tomkins with Ferguson and Mitchell. Now that would be interesting if they are ever all fit.

Now issued. Criteria sounds complicated but, from what I understand, players need to obtain 15 points. By playing regularly in the Bundesliga he automatically got 12. Presumably the other 3, were obtained possibly by goals, I am not sure

I absolutely agree. Would love to see Bats, Mateta, Eze and Zaha in a sort of 4231. We’d probably need a couple of CM’s with the work rate of a 26 year old Claude Makelele for it to work and a really solid defence with pace, power and presence across all 4 positions.
