Maybe the decision rests on Bournemouth's relagation survival ?

Now this seems plausible and would like to see - IMO Eddie Howe would be an excellent and exciting appointment.

If you stand back and look objectively what he has achieved at Bournemouth;

Promotion to the top flight first time in their history 2014/15
5 years in the Prem
Limited budget
Average attendance - what 10K?
Top finish 9th 2016/17

OK may end this year - but done brilliantly to keep them up for 5 years with such limited resources and unlike us playing good football through the majority of that period.

He had a tough time at Burnley before returning to Bournemouth in 2012. But he’s far more experienced now and has 5 years of Prem experience under his belt..

A season or so ago I predicted he would be off to either Sours or Arsenal - but in that time maybe he’s stock has waned a little - so we could be a good fit - good for both parties.

If Bournemouth do go down could bring Ryan Fraser and David Brooks with him..!!

Maybe even move Roy “upstairs” for a year to work with him and put DF out to grass..!!

Leicester didn't wait around to keep Ranieri when things were going wrong.

Arsenal kept Wenger for as long as they could.

Look at their current league positions.

Going slightly off topic here but I remember at the time some Arsenal fans for whom Wenger could do no wrong, such was the nostalgic glow he held. Others were more pragmatic and realised that he had gone stale. Obviously not all his doing, the Arsenal board having much to do with the problems imho. Sounds familiar...

The above figures indicate the number of rest days between our games since the restart. Add in no fans and no atmosphere at games and it's totally obvious that it's not football as we know it. Basically no time to train normally between games or properly recover from niggling injuries. Probably not much time for proper analy.ing videos of opponents.

Obviously it's not great that we have lost seven on the trot but I am not going to panic or start screaming for the manager to be sacked unless when we are back to normal with weeks between games its still happening.

This thread was starting to go so well.

It's the same situation for all teams, worse for teams still in the FA Cup. All managers now have 5 subs from a possible 9 they can make use of. We have an aging team and aren't giving fringe players a chance and hardly ever use subs. Soft tissue injuries are inevitable based on that approach. We aren't rotating the players. We've also had Schlupp and Townsend return from injury over lockdown. The manager can't simply claim to be unlucky, it's a soft excuse.

But the major difference here is that Hodgson is leaving in less than a year. So it’s not familiar in the slightest. The club are already planning on him leaving.

I read an interesting analysis of the game by Mourinho.
Essentially he was saying the game has four phases - defence, attack and the transitions from one to another.
In his view what separates the best from the rest is how they manage the transitions.
Under Hodgson we usually defend well and get back in a good defensive shape in transitions when our attacks break down.
However, it could be argued we don’t manage the other 2 phases well.
In this I have some sympathy with Hodgson as he hasn’t really got the tools at his disposal to manage the transition from defence to attack, in particular if Zaha is off the boil.
There is little pace in our midfield and attack so we appear pedestrian in our attacks.
One option I suppose would be to play more directly as we did under Pulis and Allardyce but Hodgson appears reluctant to employ this tactic.
If we do inject more pace into the team through acquisitions, in particular in the attacking areas , it will be interesting to see if we play more progressively.

The transition part can only be achieved when the passing is accurate and precise , the ball retention is consistent and reliable,
Watching Palace , that is only seen in patches. Old pro,s have either got it or they aim,t, Roy, can’t teach old dogs new tricks.

I would put lack of pace down as one of the major characteristics holding us back. Our lack of it dictates everything we do. Jimmy Mc is terrified to get forward because he hasn’t the legs any more to get back then we have Sakho who I honestly believe is the slowest player in the whole division.

I'm starting to just not care anymore, which is worrying. Have been like it once before, and even stopped watching for most of one season in the past.
Sick of the silly wages, lack of effort and no flair at all, even from Zaha. As for the tactics, nothing to talk about either.

roy should have walked at the end of last season when he realised parish was not going to back him.
thats why i blame him for the mess we are in. a new manager would have insisted on a transfer kitty.
parish gets away with murder with roy at the helm.

Isn't that what has lead to our current predicament? Managers bought in to keep us up but can only do so if they are backed up with a transfer kitty. We now have the legacy of that. The well has run dry. Can't spend what we don't have.

The only manager with a massive net outlay on players was BFS. Roy inherited all those players 6 months later.

I think the issue with between Roy and Parish is clear.

A friend of my flatmate came round last night. She was upset that her boyfriend of quite some time only meets her once a week and won't invest more in their relationship. She keeps giving him one more chance, he agrees to everything then does nothing. She keeps going round for their once a week visit. The worst that can happen for him is that she walks off, and he doesn't like her that much anyway so no bit loss for him. Otherwise, he keeps getting an easy shag every Wednesday without having to lift a finger... she also likes going to Palace matches so I might give cucking her number (although she is quite annoyiong).

Anyway,

Roy keeps keeping us up, which is what Parish wants, he keeps asking for investment, Parish keeps saying no becuase he doesn't really want to invest in Roy. The worst that will happen for Parish is the Roy will walk. He can then bring someone new in knowing he's saved up some cash for transfers to entice a decent manager in. Repeat every couple of years.
