Aside from finishing, the thing we lack most is two-way, box-to-box energy in the midfield. Yes, Jimmy Mac offers it to some extent, but his health and stamina aren't what they used to be. CG is an excellent signing, and I predict we'll be sorry to see him go next summer.

I share your beliefs and look forward to seeing Gallagher at work. By next summer our young midfielders should be somewhat nearer being 1st team ready if they are going to make it, that is..

Undoubtedly an improvement on McCarthy in my book and has so much scope to improve (and the right attitude from what I’ve read). I think this has been a really impressive window and although dubious at first about PV’s managerial credentials I am also now really looking forward to the new season.
Deadwood out + talented ambitious younger replacements in = significant step in the right direction in my book!

COYP!

P.S. Happy birthday Spider.

It is my 65th birthday tomorrow ( yep 10th birthday was 66 World Cup Final), presumably I am now officially an old fart but I am very happy with the transfer window and will raise a glass to DF and SP. If they bring in a wide right player ( not Stirlingsray ) , I will raise 2 glasses. Well done everyone with regard to the recruitment. It won’t be an easy ride initially but I am really looking forward to the season

Happy Birthday Spidey and appropriately you let us know on the web

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Not too sarcastically I hope he does a little better than Bamford although even he has done better since leaving us. Gallagher could do well and could help out Banks by blocking a too early debut. I am still amazed by other recent signings to be too upset by the Gallagher signing (distant relation of my hairdresser) and I hope he does well enough for us to keep up this season.

Excellent addition and use of the loan market. Clearly improving with every loan move and was one of the better players in a shocking WBA team last season.

He should get lots of minutes this season and think he can help us push on. The fact that he has already played with Eze and Guehi at England age groups also bodes really well.

We really dont need him . At best he will be on the bench blocking the development of one of our own .

There are reasons WBA got relegated , having a s***e midfield was one of them .

He won’t be on the bench and we really do need his energy in midfield. Having seen many U23 games this year, whilst some have potential, none of the midfielders are ready, whereas Gallagher is.
So are you saying Gallagher and Perreira are s***e?

I hope your right spidey. Playing U23 is a lot different to the premier league though . Im not saying they are s***e , Im saying at this time they are not good enough for Palace .

When I see some defensive attributes to go with their obvious attacking ones they will be ready to be premier league midfielders . Until then we should keep well clear .

Whose development is he blocking? Gallagher is a young, box-to-box midfielder and fills a position we desperately needed cover. Olise and Eze have no set return date. Kouyate, Jairo and Luka are holding with no interest in attacking. McArthur is reaching the end of his career. Schlupp is utility player with history of injuries. Possibly Banks is the one who may suffer from this signing but he is completely untested.

He obviously isn’t the finished article yet but he will bring energy and running into our midfield. Take a look at distance covered and sprint stats for last season. We were miles behind all other teams.

Guarantee Gallagher will start 25+ prem games this season based on work rate alone.

I like the fact we should have competition for places and strength in depth for the first time in a while. I can see Gallagher and Banks both contributing this season. It won’t be the same old 11 every week and no subs til very late on. I think Vieira will mix it up a bit. Looking forward to the season now!

That’s an interesting opinion. I have to disagree with you however based on the fact that Marcelo Bielsa wanted him and Chelsea aren’t willing to sell him.
