I would love not to pay but I do have televisions and I do watch some stuff on the BBC.
Defunding them is the only way forward and then let us pay for what we actually want to watch.
Similarly - if it wasn't for Sky Sports I would get rid of that rubbish as well - their news is as biased now as the BBC's is. Adam Boulton is married to Anji Hunter I believe - remember her!

You dont have to pay, its never been set in stone, its a scaremongering tax. When you get your demand, dont open it, send it back (RTS), write over envelope, dont watch bbc, wont pay illegal tax.

Yes, you will get threatning letters, dont open the, send them back, same message. I stopped paying 3 years ago, mainly due to their coverage, or lack of the Vets. To date, there approx 5 million of us refusing to pay, only 28 court cases, 2 convictions.

From James Cleverly MP :

"I’m black. My mum was black. I have black family. I have black friends. I have black colleagues. I have black constituents.
Number of times that the Last Night of the Proms was raised with me as an issue before this BBC nonsense?:

Except the BBC have said repeatedly that having no singers was because of COVID restrictions, and had nothing to do with the lyrics! Fake News!

But of course, for those with long vested interests in having the BBC defunded and replaced by a private media company (Murdoch, Rothermere etc) it is the perfect culture war issue to make up as a stick to beat them.

The BBC's news channel is a joke, but the BBC is more than a news channel. Bitesize is the single best resource for teachers on the web. It hosts all the open university documentaries for people trying to get an education without a lot of dough. It has one of the best podcast collections in the world, great radio music, shows sports without adverts, great documentaries etc etc.

Would Murdoch take on the role of a public service broadcaster? Like f***. If there ain't a dollar to swindle from the working man he ain't interested.

If you don't like their news channels, just switch them off, but don't defund a whole industry which does so much to help in education just because you don't agree with their orchestral arrangements!

I love the fact that so many people are that insecure about their nationalism that they are buying this bullsh*t

I simply do NOT accept the pitiful reason about "No singers". I fully accept the reasons for no audience but there could have been a single singer proudly bellowing out the words.

Another nail in the coffin for the BBC as they cowardly buckle & remove the lyrics to patriotic songs such as Rule Britannia at the Proms to satisfy the woke brigade.Cultural vandalism.

We have polarised views and will have to agree to disagree on this matter.
I shall be on my 'Soapbox' tonight when I meet up with like-minded chums.

But it is not just the news channels. It is the drama with box ticking taking precedence over story, it is Gary Lineker being paid millions for talking about football, it is about a whole host of other issues.

I had always defended the BBC arguing that the good outweighed the bad until Brexit. Then it became Remainer central with its constant biased coverage, its barely concealed contempt for people who voted Leave and then the coverage of the night we left.

Final straw for me. In this modern media age there is no justification for its funding model. If it wants to function via taxation then it needs to be seen as just another branch of the civil service and certainly not paying people the salaries that it does for jobs that it could fill much much cheaper.

Its days are over. A dead man walking.

And part of the reason the BBC became egotistical, is because of Brian Hanrahan "I counted them all out, and I counted them back" (Falklands)

And Kate Adie in Tripoli in the late 1980's.

At this point, the reporter became more important than the news.

Kenneth Baker should have made £millions. That was professionalism.

I disengage, I turn the page.

I could be wrong but I thought one quarter of all cases at magistrate courts relate to non payment of the licence fee which is why there is an argument to decriminalise it as it is clogging up the legal system.

But I am with you defund the BBC.
