he also saw off mccarthy, mandanda & club hero jules, the fact the 1st 2 were even signed shows that jules wasnt deemed adequate backup by more than 1 manager.

as it stands wayne is our best keeper since promotion, VG could overtake him in a years or so time but not yet.

had haller’s shot at the weekend gone under wayne he would have been hammered on here but VG gets a free pass.

we are lucky to finally have 2 PL standard goalkeepers at the club.

I wouldn't blame any keeper for letting that in. An instinctive finish from 7 yards would be difficult for any keeper who had gone to cover the near post

Yeah I see that. My Dad always really rated Jackson as Palaces best. I saw him play a number of times but was only very young so couldn’t comment. Certainly couldn’t compare nor judge. But even he played his last game 46 years ago.
Even with Burridge - who I saw a lot - my memory is too hazy to say he’s better or worse, although I have a better view on that. And, in part, there’s my struggle. Can you really fairly compare after so many years?
Having said that, I did watch most of Nigel’s matches...............

I wasn't knocking Nigel he was a great keeper for us, I just think Jackson was better, but you are quite right
,its hard to judge players after so many years apart.

To say that Wayne "saw off Jules" is laughable - Jules' best years were a decade ago. & if judged on his complete tenure, Jules is EASILY the best goalkeeper we've had since promotion.

My problem with WH is that there are 2 Wayne Henessey's

The first is a confident goalkeeper, premiership class

The second is a timid shadow of the first, who flaps @ crosses & looks like a rabbit in the headlights.

We've seen version 1, but more often we get version 2.

For me VG is somewhere inbetween, but he's consistent.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Anybody that infers that I am another man's boyfriend is not on and same goes for you who said you were wondering the same thing. So no apology from me rather it should be the other way round.

In the year Jules was replaced by WH, WH was not confident and made some basic errors, and the aggression towards him came mainly from Pardew not being willing to give Jules another try.??
Interestingly the clips are from 18/19 season when I think WH was arguably at his best.
For my part I like VG and I think he commands his box better, he deserves his spot and I can't see WH getting his place back

This thread has taken a bizarre turn even by HOL standards.

To get back to the subject of Guaita, like deetee earlier on the thread, I played in goal (not to a great standard) and my son played in goal to a higher standard than me. It's a position I have played and have had cause to study more than most. I share the view that VG is a better keeper than WH.

I don't criticise keepers for making mistakes, even the best do - De Gea and Lloris have both done so this season. The issue is how frequently the mistakes arise. VG inspires more confidence in me and makes fewer mistakes. I'm not going to resort to saying WH is 'rubbish' or any such terms but I do firmly believe Guiata is better and it seems the Palace management share that view.

i agree with you on the whole but you cant take jules entire palace career into it as 90% of his games were played in the 2nd tier against. inferior opposition, thats like saying pukki is better than kane because he scored more goals last season. (im not saying thats your view btw)

when VG 1st came into the team i was sceptical about him, he was making silly errors but he seems to have overcome them this season and long may that continue.
