I say no to gomis. 8m for a player that just arrived on a free

He didn't really arrive on a free if Swansea contracted to pay him £8m over four years instead of paying that sum to his previous club

It seems that Gomis has got a very good agent.
I think that Swansea are stuck with him and his massive wages unless he starts to score a lot of goals.

I think that Palace have moved on from Gomis and Gestede offers a better option.

Would be interesting to see him partner Gayle up front. Looking at the Youtube clips of him he seems more dynamic in front of goal than Sanogo in my opinion.
I remember the heady days of Flanagan & Allen , Wright and Bright.
Are we due another double act up front terrorising our premiere league opposition?

the best you-tube clips of a player is sometimes the same as the best bits of a crap film

The Mirror writer doesn't seem to be able to hold more than one thought in his mind at a time. Swansea apparently have to wait for Rhodes because they won't let him leave until the summer due to imminently losing Gestede... To us. We're not going to sign both Gestede and Gomis so only one's going to happen.

This surely must be Gomis's agent agitating for a nice fat pay check?

Must be on £40k a week, at least.

Not the type of player I expect us to be looking at.

After all these years I still don't get the weekly salary. Are players paid only during the season? They are over here but the press reports the players annual salary, not weekly. What would 40K a week work out to a year and how many weeks are paid?

Cheers for that, Sg. Over here, a baseball player is paid only during the season, usually on the 1st and 15th of the month. Spring training is paid separately and post season is also separate, with money shared based on how far the team goes. An example: Alex (A-Fraud) Rodriguez was paid $4 million last year even though he was suspended for the 162 game regular season plus any possible post season (the Yankees didn't qualify) for violating the PED policy. The $4 million was for spring training, for which he wasn't suspended. He will make $26 million this coming season.

Given the differences between the US franchise system and the club system that Palace operates under, clubs like Crystal Palace could not possibly survive as the salary structure over here is far greater. We have players on long term contracts for hundreds of millions total, plus signing and performance bonuses. Only the NFL doesn't fully guarantee contracts, the other leagues do. Unfortunately, I think English football is headed towards American style wages. Salary caps don't help because they are based on percentage of revenue league wide. Given the ever-increasing TV rights fees, a cap will not stop with nonsensical fees being asked and payed world wide. England may be ten to fifteen years behind the US on this score, but given the mega-rich owners coming in driving both transfer fees and salaries higher and higher, our club will be at a definite competitive disadvantage unless new revenue is brought in. CPFC 2010 have done very well but they simply haven't the resources of a club like man City, where the owners can print money. Maybe there is hope. Oil prices are falling!

It's already there. A Premier League player on 250k a week, that's £13,000,000 a year. Just shy of $20,000,000. Plus the huge transfer fee on top of that.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Then you have bonuses that would bring that figure up to £17-18m a year, it's football gone mad.

To think when I started I earned Hfl 1600 per month plus Hfl 40 win bonus and Hfl 10 for a draw, on a good month I could earn Hfl 1700, now days they earn more than that per hour.
