If you put in skewed figures and unrealistic growth assumptions into the projections you can get all sorts of answers.

Economic forecasts are like weather forecasts really... unreliable at best.

That's not an unreasonable argument. But doesn't mean they aren't respected, or that many of them have not or will not get things right.

And the idea that austerity was a poor solution was backed up by numerous studies looking at historical precedent (admittedly with some contradictory studies as well, but largely in the minority).

And that wasn't what I argued. WAGU suggested - completely fatuously - that no one with any sense would support the idea that austerity was an inferior solution to investment. He is wrong in that. Utterly.

I know plenty of economists and it is quite probable they are wrong more often than they are right in their forecasts. But they are also mostly intelligent and educated people with plenty of sense.

Let's face it, austerity was more ideologically driven (cut services, benefits, pay etc) than financially.

Interesting video about the outcomes of tory economic policies...

What are you insiuating?
"White people playing divide and rule. We should not play their game"

What was this in response to? Is there any context to the remark? Or does the real context nullify any insinuations that whoever 'lifted' the comment wanted to get across? This is an oft used tactic throughout the media / social media.

1. Not sure about the White people bit - does the person she's replying to use the words. What else should she call white people? Honkeys?

2. Divide and rule was a feature of colonialism, as it is elsewhere, is she wrong in this? Abbot is saying to @bimadew that they shouldn't be divided is my interpretation.

3. Abbott is by no means my favourite MP. However the way she is vilified is similar to how Corbyn is treated by the media. No real substance - just nastiness.

They ought to do away with nastiness in politics. Although it'd be less exciting and I wouldn't know how to vote any more.
