I should have made that clearer, apologies. So if you read what the republican officials said about this – 'Mr Sterling said the suitcases were moved across a room as “normal procedure”, and that there was nothing “odd” about the process, because poll workers were tasked with scanning the ballots once observers and vote counters had left the State Farm Arena.' 'Republican and Trump campaign observers were not told to leave, and that the ballots scanned in the surveillance video had already been counted' 'it was still open for them or the public to come back in to view at whatever time they wanted to, as long as they were still working.' In fairness, the governor wanted an audit of the signatures, the republican secretary of state denied the request. Personally I'd have sanctioned it just to make a point, but maybe he decided the cost and time involved for something he clearly knew wasn't an issue, wasn't necessary. There's another 10 days of this schtick then it's done – at least from a Trumpian presidential point of view anyway.

If you tell a lie a thousand times it's still a lie. if you tell it 1001 times it doesn't suddenly become true. FFS Biden won, Trump lost

Trump blames ‘Democrat’ postal service for loss even though it’s led by GOP megadonorTrump blames ‘Democrat’ postal service for loss even though it’s led by GOP megadonor - [Link] He does inadvertently highlight a good point though. Trump blatantly and transparently tried to hamper the mail delivery system in the run up to the election. If you're looking for a real effort to skew the vote, that's where you're most likely to find genuine wrongdoing.

I expect he will. He'll want to reduce his personal risk of legal problems down the line and this is one of the few things he can do about that. It of course won't help him at a state level though. He has serious problems down the line.

I suspect you are very much like Trump, who believes whatever springs into his mind at any one time must be true. Me? A teacher in a STEM subject? Yeah absolutely no interest in truth.

Going after Trump would be just about the most stupid thing the Democrats could do. Even if it were done by their supporters it would make little difference in how it would be seen if it succeeded. But personally I hope they do it as it only quickens the inevitable process.....Essentially the republican elites will be made to respond to their base. Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Dec 2020 8.10am)

In any event I have met some seriously weird teachers who only very reluctantly stuck to the curriculum and held very odd beliefs in their private lives. From all you say here you would be quite at home with them.

Once again, my beliefs are nationalism and social conservatism. I'm not sure how that configures to 'odd'.

Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Dec 2020 8.10am) How to handle Trump, and the attitudes of his base, is going to be a problem for both parties going forward. It cannot though be allowed to dominate the immediate issue of bringing their virus problem under control but as Biden's term will start with the vaccine rollouts that path looks set to lead to better things. The Democrats will have the problem of balancing what the law demands for those who are guilty of crimes with the impact on seeking to heal the terrible divisions. The law cannot be ignored and no President ought to even try to interfere with it. Except via pardons! So maybe pardoning Trump and his family in a creative way, which limits their capacity to do any further damage, is Biden's way forward. I have no idea though of whether that is even possible. The Republicans must take back the soul of their party and restore it to its historic place of decency and integrity. If they don't they will remain on the margins until they do. The attitudes that lie behind Trump's base and his rise won't just disappear if these things happen. They are too deeply ingrained in part of America for that in the foreseeable future. The numbers who hold them can though gradually be reduced through education and experience. Show respect and understanding. Hold them up as cultural icons whose contribution to the USA story is valued and they won't feel so isolated and ignored. The others who were attracted to Trump, but only loosely connected to his base, are more easily prised away. Here's hoping.
