Once again, yes it was democratically elected. I'm still waiting for the proof it wasn't. The government didn't 'oust' the president the parliament voted to, which apparently wasn't legal. Here's how your precious Wikipedia describes it: 'The Revolution of Dignity took place in Ukraine in February 2014 at the end of the Euromaidan protests, when deadly clashes between protesters and the security forces in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv culminated in the ousting of elected President Viktor Yanukovych and the overthrow of the Ukrainian government.' What's quite plain to me is that the west interfered and caused unrest which has led directly to the Ukraine being destroyed. This was all being warned about years ago. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Jul 2022 11.48pm) Once again, with strong rumours of widespread vote rigging. I have neither the time, or interest, in searching for the "proof" especially as I am certain you wouldn't accept it. What is proven is that an uprising happened, and a new election returned a different government. The Parliament did vote out the pro-Russia President, and the only one to suggest that such a vote was "illegal" was Putin. There's a surprise! As is that you appear to agree. As no-one from the west was involved in that vote, how did they interfere? Ukraine had been making moves towards the EU before Yanukovych turned east, and it was this that caused the uprising. I don't doubt that there were encouraging contacts between the EU and Ukraine, but that's not interference. It's co-operation. Only people like Putin, and it seems you, see them as sinister.

I see the interference into Ukrainian politics as having led to today's destruction, yes. I agree with Jordan Peterson, Peter Hitchens and plenty of others on the disastrous policies that led to this terrible war. Like Peterson and Hitchens I also agree with the criticisms of Russia under Putin.

Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Jul 2022 11.54am) You are, for once, right because it was interference into Ukrainian politics that was the precursor to this war. The interference though came from Putin, who found ways to install his man into the Presidency, which in turn caused the uprising and gave him the excuse to invade Crimea. As this is the US politics thread, best we leave this here. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (14 Jul 2022 2.05pm)
