Are you really sure about that? Really? There were sustained, and seemingly credible, rumours about large scale vote rigging in an election that was very close. The protests which preceded the overthrow were large scale and popular, and the majority of people seem pretty determined to maintain their independence. Of course, I support democracy, when conducted in a transparent, free and fair way, underpinned by the rule of law. I don't support the shoehorning of a President into power by a bigger power intent on restoring control over a territory then regard as their own. If the protests had failed, then Ukraine would already be tied to Russia's apron strings and the Red Army camped on their Eastern borders. Maybe you would have preferred that, but I don't and nor does, it seems, most of western opinion. Wasn't that close. Zelensky got 70% of the vote.

There were no internationally upheld claims to the contrary. Your claim that without the coup Russia would still have invaded makes no sense.

Was it democratically elected? It was an election around which there were credible rumours about widespread vote rigging, which resulted in a pro-Russia President taking power. A President whose policies swiftly became unpopular. Were there any international investigations? Were any possible during a violent revolution? However, democracy prevailed as the Parliament voted by 328-0 to replace him which, surprise surprise, upset Putin. Protests continued until new elections confirmed a new, westward looking government. Putin invaded Crimea and then the whole of Ukraine in 2022. Without these events (it wasn't a coup as it was the government itself which ousted the President) Putin might have had no need to invade. The keys would have been handed to him. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (13 Jul 2022 11.20pm) Once again, yes it was democratically elected. I'm still waiting for the proof it wasn't. The government didn't 'oust' the president the parliament voted to, which apparently wasn't legal. Here's how your precious Wikipedia describes it: 'The Revolution of Dignity took place in Ukraine in February 2014 at the end of the Euromaidan protests, when deadly clashes between protesters and the security forces in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv culminated in the ousting of elected President Viktor Yanukovych and the overthrow of the Ukrainian government.' What's quite plain to me is that the west interfered and caused unrest which has led directly to the Ukraine being destroyed. This was all being warned about years ago.
