More evidence of DD's Euro negotiator qualifications (from July 2016):

"The Tory MP David Davis has been made Minister for Brexit, Theresa May revealed last night.

But he doesn’t seem to know how EU trade deals are negotiated.

A few weeks ago, during the EU Referendum, he posted a series of tweets arguing for Britain to leave the EU and then negotiating deals with the major EU countries.

David Davis ✔ @DavidDavisMP
The first calling point of the UK's negotiator immediately after #Brexit will not be Brussels, it will be Berlin, to strike a deal
10:50 AM - 26 May 2016

David Davis ✔ @DavidDavisMP
(1/3) Post #Brexit a UK-German deal would include free access for their cars and industrial goods, in exchange for a deal on everything else
10:50 AM - 26 May 2016

David Davis ✔ @DavidDavisMP
(2/3) Similar deals would be reached with other key EU nations
10:50 AM - 26 May 2016

There’s one major problem with this – EU countries by law cannot negotiate bilateral trade deals with countries.

...we have a Brexit minister who doesn’t understand EU law"

I suspect the more pertinent question might be,are you actually aware you have no idea what you are talking about? The Bar is a tried and tested preparation for good politicians. For example,22% of Conservative MP's have a legal background. Plus Starmer has been DPP and head of the CPS,a distinctly ungenteel job.

I suspect he would in fact take your boy Mr D to pieces in a brain and nous not bluster and brawn contest that wouldn't go the distance..

That's the same DD who showed his political talents by losing a Tory leadership campaign he was favourite to win in 2005 by running a naff campaign epitomised by a picture with two women wearing tight T-shirts saying: “It’s DD for me.”

Having worked at the House of Commons and as a lawyer,I might be reasonably placed to venture the opinion (just an opinion)that the Bar is every bit as tough and mucky a cesspit for "operators" to succeed in as parliament. Any meaningful resemblance between Rumpole (set 30 plus years ago anyway)and day to day litigation lawyer life exists IMHO only in the minds of those who engage in fantasy based on reading novels and/or watching TV.

Have you ever actually worked as/at either?

Yes as head. Of the cps,he's had to make some tough decisions, like denying the families of the Hyde Park bombing victims legal aid time and time again.

How much is legal aid now. Used to be you could take your boss/company to tribunal. Now you need 1.8 k to stump up in case you lose.

They have been trying for years, but to no avail.

But 200 million on the bloody sunday inquiry is ok.

They want to bring a private prosecution to the man responsible for it.(he's walking about free because of blair).

He's still off the Richter scale for barminess. He has a very, very murky past in terms of what he's said and the company he's kept and you can guarantee that the electorate won't be allowed to forget it. He has as much chance of getting into No. 10 as you or I have. Probably less.

Only one (though major) problem with your analysis..

The decision was taken by the Legal Aid Agency which has zilch to do with the CPS.

Most likely explanation for the decision is massive cuts in eligibility for legal aid since 2010..

What's the reason given for not allowing it?

Down to around 3/1 in the bookies. What odds on you CF?

Corbyn seems to have picked up a Trump like head of steam now. No matter what s*** they fling at him, he is coming through unscathed. Will May be Clinton?

Out of interest, what do you base your belief in Davis' skills in diplomacy on?

The only thing I really remember him ever doing is getting his arse handed to him by Cameron in the leadership election...

I didn't say diplomacy. I said politics.

Big difference.
