Oh Truss was convinced by her party was she. I wonder was it her party that had to step in and buy tens of billions of bonds....Do you honestly believe that the brain isn't connected to the nervous system?....Just as our physical systems are linked and work together the political and financial systems are intrinsically linked.....they don't exist on some separate plane as you appear to think. I suppose she was convinced by her party to sack her Chancellor as well then a few days before she went. Some of the stuff you try to sell. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Oct 2022 12.47am) That nothing politically exists in isolation to events in the world is obvious. That the Bank bought bonds to protect pension funds as a consequence of the markets losing confidence in the UK economy was not their responsibility. It was their duty. That the two are connected doesn't shift the blame. Truss had a meeting with the Chairman of the Party, and the Chairman of the 22 Committee just an hour before she resigned. Who took the decision is unknown, but until then she showed no signs that her position was untenable. I also believe that Hunt was shoehorned in by the Party. Hunt is not a natural partner of Truss and she had blanked all of those on the centre right until then and shown no political wisdom at all. So yes, I think the Party gave her the nod.

'The main mark of modern governments is that we do not know who governs, de facto any more than de jure. We see the politician and not his backer; still less the backer of the backer; or, what is most important of all, the banker of the backer.' J.R.R. Tolkien

While this is a slight deviation but seeing as we have referred to the inevitable intermeshing and control of the finance world with the political (which I argue happens all the time but you saw here as you did before with Greece) I'd like to highlight this small speech by Geoffery Bloom, given some years ago when Ukip were in the EU parliament. Some background....Bloom was a financial economist and became a director of an investment company. [Tweet Link]

Good speech. And the reason that central bankers didn't and won't go to prison for any of the prior and present disasters that have infected the financial and thus the everyday world is because to do so would implicate the political world alongside with them as hand in glove. It's the same reason we don't get to see the Epstein island client list and who did what there....real power has no need for votes and no need to advertise.
