And you know this how? The individual whose parents complained appears unprepared to corroborate their parents story. Justice is a requirement for both sides. An allegation from a third party is simply that.

I'm with you on that, Mapletree. It's all heresay at the moment. There's no actual evidence of a crime having been committed. Indeed someone who joked about the alleged recipient not paying tax on the proceeds perhaps has a valid point; even 17 year olds are subject to tax law. Mrs YT speculated that it could have been a case of blackmail that's backfired so run to the papers.

I'm even a bit surprised at the flak the BBC is taking. If someone went to the papers and made such an allegation about an employee of (say) ASDA, would there be an expectation for ASDA to investigate it and pressure for them to name the employee? Fair enough that sordid goings-on are likely to affect your career prospects, but the activity that's taken place is nothing to do with the employer where it's done in the employee's own time.

I was with you up to this point. Assuming he has not broken the law but the paying for explicit pictures if true then he has to be sacked. Most large corporates have a policy regarding reputational damage and I think this falls clearly into that category however it needs to be proven.

From what I'm hearing about who it is, if that's true, they won't be singing in the valleys when they hear it.

Welcome back Stirls . . .

Could this possibly mean there will no more 'Snowman' at xmas?

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I hope it’s not Angela Rippon!!!

Indeed. Thanks for the correction. Originally my phone autocorrected it to heresy, which I noticed, and then to heresay, which obviously I didn't. In fact I'm not even sure heresay is a word, so I may have to look it up.

It was said by Kevin O’Sullivan on live tv yesterday.
I also know someone who’s wife works in a good job at the bbc and they kinda confirmed this.

I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet. I agree that it would be a career-ending matter for an employee of ASDA, the BBC or whoever. What I don't quite 'get' is the clamour for the BBC to be the investigator and then to investigate it in the public gaze. (I'm still not sure I've explained it too well though!)

Everyone knows the BBC is absolutely top-drawer in terms of investigating it's own employees. Why anyone would doubt the ability of this politically-charged waste of licence-fee money to investigate itself is beyond my comprehension.

I disengage, I turn the page.

Probably because she watched the Saville documentary

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

OK, agreed. As for the clamour I'm afraid that is standard media practice the other outlets are trying to get the BBC to out this person rather than naming him themself.

The BBC can't cry foul over this because they have done the same in the past and no doubt will do so in the future. I'm afraid it's all part of the dog eat dog mentality of that industry, relishing another company's discomfort and then going all holier than thou when it's them.

The BBC has had great fun over the phone hacking scandal putting the boot into the tabloids who are now getting their own back.

Is it a crime? The child was 17. I'm not condoning it - merely wondering the legality here
