Well, we didn't have 3.25mill unemployed as we did in 1983, did we? Youngsters, especially in the industrial heartlands, in the 60's and 70's had apprenticeships, jobs and/or further education to look forward to. A lot of those towns and villages were laid to waste economically once Thatcher got in. Fast forward a few years from 1979 and then we have the Chav culture introducing itself to the U.K. Delightful. There were many many problems before Thatcher...for sure she applied economic medicine that harmed the lower classes definitely. It also saved the country from being another Spain and at a time we were the sick man of Europe. As for blaming Thatcher for cultural ills. Like I say you accuse me of romanticizing then later the same day I find you doing it yourself. Edited by Stirlingsays (30 May 2017 7.50pm)

No point in both countries being ruined by the same destructive force is there? You are either a liar or again....romanticizing your past and forgetting. You definitely made posts saying you came down on the side of Scottish independence. I distinctly remember it.

Remember Stirling, everything is Thatchers fault. Before Thatch, Britain was a glorious, stable, economically sustainable and fully functioning country.

That's a myth...Keir Starmer (whom I've seen close up at work) is IMHO a very clever, able and tough cookie indeed who knows how to handle the realpolitik of negotiating...David Davies by comparison comes across as about as able as Claude Davis in relation to Sakho. Sorry legal but I wouldn't trust your ability to judge a marrow competition let alone who is the best person to negotiate Brexit.

I said numerous times I was 'not bothered either way'. The only time I cam eoff the fence was a 'fvck it, go for it then' tongue-in cheek remark in response to a mad rant from from one of the Right ranters on here. It may even have been you I am 100% sure of it.

Na...actually I think 'imagined lore' is a good phrase and precisely what you can be accused of. Still, whatever...I'm fed up with having a go at you. But we did have overmanning, strikes every week, ridiculous pay rises, laughable productivity, poor quality manufacturing, failing public services all resulting in our reputation of being the sick man of Europe. And you can't really believe that Chavs started with Thatcher. There have always been scumbags since I can remember. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (30 May 2017 8.14pm)

Wow,another dig. Kids having kids are a bigger problem...vicious circles. We can't say the kids are at fault because they witnessed domestic violence or suffered from neglect or there is an issue with alcohol or drugs. Maybe the kid is a primary carer for their parent. More prevalent than you'd think. Mentioning that budget cuts do nothing to alleviate or break the vicious circle you allude to (quite correctly) nor does a pish poor social services because what staff are left are massively overstretched is not point scoring. It's a fact that needs to be faced and dealt with by whoever is in Government. At the moment it's not far from breaking point.
