We are where we are - although god knows why.
If he could be persuaded, get Big Sam back on a one year contract - heavily incentivised to stay in the top flight. Spend that year getting our act together and identifying someone suitable and willing to take us forward. This of course should have been done in Roy's last 2 years.
He has accepted he is a rescue manager and we'd be offering a bit more than that with no long term commitment on his part.
If you don't like Sam this will not be for you. I think he could quickly identify those to keep or move on, and find some replacements. He might even find Luka's mojo.
Better than second best or in the case of Silva, third or fourth.

It must be obvious by now tha club are really struggling to get a man they see as suitable for Palace. Let’s face it the out of work list is constantly being reshuffled by the media. They have to have their fun.It doesn’t look as if the club fancy any of them. Not surprisingly in my OHO, it does begin to look like another reliable short term option could be considered. That doesn’t make it that much easier, because only one comes to mind ,without searching the globe, and it has to be Sam.
He could settle us, sort the mess, and give the club the space to get the man for the future. Even at WB, if he had had a whole season they may have survived,, There is little doubt he knows what is needed to compete in this league.
Biggest problem. He didn’t walk for nothing, could he be convinced to take us on again? And as the club had four years of fire fighting under Roy, to identify where the club was going, would another year in a safe pair of hands change the clubs approach enough to make it any easier to attract the right person.?

Cooper - NO! I mean seriously Swansea fans where he is supposed to be so successful are divided about him...after perceived success!

Dyche - We have missed the window of opportunity on getting him as he is now building his squad for Burnley next season.

Lampard - If we wanted him we would have got him by now

Silva - NO! (Seriously his experiences at multiple clubs have all ended very quickly in failure)

Howe - Again if we wanted him we could have got him by now but seems to think he is way better than he is and make demands as such

Ismael - Too late now he has gone to WBA, we missed the bus

Klinnsman - Only being mentioned because people saw him on the telly recently and he said he would take the Spurs job at the drop of the hat. Done nothing but failure as a manager, living off his name.

Dougie - The clamouring for Dougie is purely based on him coming across well on when Eagles Dare. He did well for a very short spell in the Championship and then nothing...NO!

Allerdyce - He's not coming back, won't come back. The assumption we an get him in when it goes inevitably wrong with any of the above is not grounded at all.

I'm annoyed and dismayed at our manager search this summer, so close and yet we screw it up at the 11th hour, its getting wearing and it is eroding trust in the way the club is run.

Taking on any of the above all have known faults so I'm starting to believe that instead of getting one of the known managers that we know have faults maybe we take a gamble and try to get in a younger manager from abroad who looks to be up and coming. An Ismael or Pochetino type of manager before they came over here.

Excellent summary.
So many questions to be asked.
Cooper is a Championship manager whose side played poor football and failed to win promotion, so how is he being considered as a candidate to handle a Premiership side facing numerous challenges?
Lampard, Howe or Dyche are better equipped. At best, Allardyce would buy us time, but nothing more.
But the big question is why we have no evidence of any successor planning, despite the inevitability of Hodgson’s departure.
That one ‘big name’ should pull out at the eleventh hour is unlucky, but two suggests something’s not right.
Someone else on this site said that fans who are unhappy with what’s happening should go and support another club.
Unfortunately life’s not like that! We’re stuck with the team we love, in good times and in bad.
As someone who supported Palace when they were in the Third Division (South), I at least have the consolation that they can’t return to that!

The most worrying aspect for me is that the two managers that we were supposed to be after and nearly got were both last minute candidates ? So no previous homework was carried out even though as mentioned It was clear Roy was not going to be in charge next season.

I didn't see that but it's a pretty crass comment to make anyway

I must admit I’m no where near over this Favre business. Really felt we have strike gold with him.

In terms of Cooper, only mentioning him because of the most recent S@n link, I am trying to see positives from his appointment

1. He has worked with both Gallagher and Guehi before who we are regularly linked with by reputable sources. We urgently need a decent CB and fresh legs in CM. IF his appointment helps secure them that’s a benefit.

2. He is great with young players ie developing the above and is very well versed in who the new upcoming players are due to his England U16/17 work

3. From what Andros said in talk sport Ayew’s brother speaks highly of him - so perhaps he would work well with our players. The negative football unfortunately would probably suit us !!

That’s the best I can do I’m afraid!

For what it’s worth I would move heaven and earth for Dyche. He will keep us up and get us out of the mud. An alternative would be Big Sam. Yes, I wouldn’t like it but if I was Parish I would now admit we are fire fighting and get in one of them.

I also hope the club just deal with some of the contracts. Andros, Ward and Cahill for me must be retained.

Definitely click bait as the article starts "Crystal Palace could step up their interest in former Tottenham Hotspur target Paulo Fonseca"

The operative word is "could" which means that he hasn't a clue but needs to write something

Probably the case on most sites.
Maybe we should start our own rumour. Pick a name… Jorge Jesus is currently managing Benfica. He’d be an option.

Parish has been clear that there is no shortage of people who want to manage Palace, the issue is whether Palace want them. Looking at the two candidates the club have made serious progress with, it seems Palace are aiming a little higher than many of us thought we would. I can only applaud that personally.

One thing I hope the club do is to reach out to those players whose contracts expire on Wednesday as from Andros' comments it does seem like they are being left out of the loop and this cannot be good for squad harmony. Even in close season they'll be communicating via WhatsApp. While the likes of Sakho and Wickham are likely to go whatever, we can't afford to lose all of the out of contract players. Most of these players have after all have played a big role in keeping the club where it is and we're in danger of a Yaya Toure birthday cake scenario. Players are human and if they are made to feel unwanted this will create disharmony and players we may want to keep like Andros may simply decide to go elsewhere, while it could also make players who are still contracted question the values of the club.

I have sympathy with Parish having apparently seen two deals collapse at the last minute, but now will be the real test of his abilities.

My thoughts as well. I was shocked to read that the club seem to be prepared to still wait for the new manager before doing anything about the contracts expiring on Wednesday.

Pre-season training starts in 9 days, presumably with the 15 'fit' retained 1st team squad members together with the better development and academy players. The out-of-contract players will be just that and so how can they realistically take part?

As for who do we get in as manager now, it seems to me that experienced PL/European managers don't see the task of keeping Palace up (never mind taking the club forward) as feasible given the player and financial situation. Consequently, only someone who desperately wants to show what they can do in the PL (if given the chance) is likely now to step up to the challenge - is Cooper that desperate and are SP & Co desperate enough to go for him?

Finally, Palace Passion suggested Ranieri on a separate thread (he's left Sampdoria apparently), and on the face of it that seems not a bad shout, but as another poster said he'll be 70 in October - so another Hodgson both in age and style of play.

Only one way 'forward' now. Keep the money in the bank, get relegated, start again, come back stronger (eventually).

We really are hopeless and have been more or less for the last 50 years or so. If we can mess up a promising situation we will.
