I don't understand people saying 4-4-2 is boring and that he insists on playing it.
We played 4-3-3 for previous seasons and it was just as tedious and boring and people were calling for it to change (me included) and in some cases to a 4-4-2 system.
I just think that it's not the system per se but the way we are so rigid and don't have any freedom or fluidity to our play. I'd rather we went long at times than playing it about at the back and midfield and going nowhere.
Get the ball forward, into the box and win the second balls in the final third and we may actually score some goals!

4-4-2, 4-4-3, it hardly makes any difference, if you are going to leak goals in the amounts, and the way we are.

It’s been reported today that we’re in for Steve Cooper of Swansea.
He has a very good track record although untried at Premier level.
It would be a yes from me.

What is the source of this report ?
One hears quite a few linked with the job!!!!

Cooper lives in an apartment opposite the marina in Swansea whilst his family are resident in North Wales.
Swansea are well-placed for promotion to the PL, there would be compensation involved and I suspect he might well wish to continue with the Swansea project in his native Wales.

Certainly one for the future. Huge experience with younger players.
The problem being rumour is going to be rife, in the present circumstances. He would be forward looking, the set up and the emphasis would have to change in recruitment. But I would go for him.

Agree with this. Most of the goals we've conceded recently have been down to defensive frailty, individual mistakes and inability to deal with crosses and balls into the box rather than us being picked apart. That said I would still try to stiffen things up by going 4-3-3.

The source of the story is that bastion of veracity the Sun!
Other outlets have now picked up on it.
He has a good track record of working with young players so would fit the profile if this is the direction we plan to take.
I hope the story has some legs.
We must have exhausted the list of old school English managers with Pulis, Pardew, Allardyce and Hodgson.
Only Bruce remains - and we tried him before!

Our back four is so bad it needs maximum protection with 3 DMs with Wilf and Eze just behind Mateta. Put those two Belgian lumps in the bin

I am in agreement.

When a central defender makes a complete hash of a routine ball in the box and then doesn't either have the desire or mobility to get out to the opposition player who has made space for himself it is little wonder that the ball finds itself in the back of the net.The same player turned sideways in the second half when a player shot but on this occasion the ball went wide.

At Leeds another defender too slow to move out to challenge a player and the ball deflects onto the net.
I see defenders from other teams putting their bodies on the line and make blocks but ours found wanting in this respect.

Furthermore when ball from is headed in from within the 6-yard box with the goalkeeper routed to his line and the team being abject at defending corners the formation does not play a part in such matters.

One can play 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or whatever other formation, if one cannot perform the basics then one is deep in the merde which is where we are a present.

Looks similar to potter at Brighton. To be fair although they were struggling they play decent stuff and seem to be forward thinking. And think they will get stronger as they are buying up some good young talent from a abroad. If we get this type of manager we will need a lot of patience .

I have supported the club for over sixty years, along with many others I’m sure, but after yesterday’s performance I had to come on here and put my point.
In all those years I have seen some diabolical performances but yesterday it wasn’t just the team it was Roy as well. If a manager sees his or her team playing like that they show compassion, drive and encouragement to try to get their team playing but watching Roy yesterday was uncomfortable he clueless staring into space turning to the dugout saying a few words and looking back at play with the same blank look on his face. Now if you are a player looking for some direction you look at your manager. Roy has been good for the club under the circumstances but the question is has time and enthusiasm run its course, saying you are enthusiastic and being enthusiastic are two different things.
Roy would make a reasonable press officer talking to the press and tv so there’s an opportunity in the club there, just a suggestion.
Who replaces him is another topic, but if Steve doesn’t act quickly those available or who would consider the club could get snapped up. I should imagine their first question to Steve would by how much money have I got to spend and I would like to look at your academy players.
I don’t want to offend anybody but I feel it has to be said, rant over let’s hope things improve when Ray L returns.....

You would think playing 442 would produce more goals. We've basically been playing with 3 forwards and eze, and rarely look like scoring. While also weakening the midfield. surely to god this shows the tactics aren't working. He changed it once against wolves and we looked so much better, then back to 442.
