I see the Ex Chairman of the BBC is suggesting the licence fee be replaced with a tax based on earnings. That will not go down well, I already pay far too much for a service I don't really use and now rather than abolish the licence fee they want to allow other people to drink on my wallet.

They really think they have a divine right to have their heads in the trough and their hands in our pockets. At we still have to put up with this until at least 2027.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Or someone who uses a trendy pronoun. It's nothing to do with a trendy pronoun. It's basic English usage that dates back decades. Either the parent, the reporter or both don't want to identify the gender of the child, hence they continually use "the child" or "my child". The correct pronoun for such a situation is 'they", unless you use the more clumsy"he or she".

I haven't read this, but he can only mean general taxation. You couldn't possibly set up and run a separate earnings-related charging system merely to collect about £4bn a year as it would cost far more than that to operate. It would be madness. Your gripe about having to pay for something you "don't really use" applies, of course, to everything paid for through taxation. For example, people who have no children pay fortunes in tax so that other people's sprogs can receive an education opportunity that many of them then squander. The list of examples is endless.

Sure but some things are essential to society e.g. healthcare, police, social care and education. I don't object to paying my share but I'll be dammed if I am expected to pay more for entertainment just because somebody else wants to watch the BBC. Let's compromise say everybody in the country has to pay a nominal £10 pa levy for the BBC, now in addition to that each viewer household is charged for their usage just like a utility bill, I would accept that. One of the BBC’s most well known presenters being investigated for paying a teenager for explicit pictures!!! Let the speculation and guessing begin!

Today’s articles describe the child as they, so could be either. I am sure yesterday mother was quoted as saying she. Presumably we will know at some point
