Now Florence Nightingale....the woman they named the hospital after. Now that's a woman you could base a country on.

While I agree that Trump has a big point, withdrawing funding before this is over and enquires and changes are made will without doubt cost lives. Further down the line when they’re testing people in Africa or Asia, due to 15% of USA WHO funding removed, there’s likely to be quite a few deaths and transferring of the virus to who knows where and for how long again.

It’s strange to see people in here who talk about the importance of sovereign nations and sovereign decision making deflect blame to other organisations and countries. Obviously China are not blameless but my understanding is that the ultimate responsibility of each nations government is to protect their own firstly. If a government chose not to prepare for this outbreak after the clear warnings provided by the WHO on 30th Jan, surely that’s ultimately the countries own responsibility as a sovereign nation no? When you have the WHO saying every day since end of Jan that this is a serious and credible threat, or Trump saying it would ‘disappear’ in April as a result of hotter weather (super cut below for your viewing pleasure), I certainly know where the lions share of blame would rest for responsibility over the spread of the virus and failure to prepare in the U.S.

I keep hearing this, 'China are not blameless'. What? They are fully to blame, they sat on full knowledge for days without informing organizations or countries of what was coming. Only someone with their head in the sand can't work out why. Taiwan wrote to the WHO about this disease before even that compromised organization would do anything. They closed their borders without their advice. Taiwan know all about the Chinese communist party. 'China are not blameless'!!!! It's like saying Crippen just liked his cellar. Maybe I've missed them but I just haven't seen a view like this being aired. The mainstream media have been about as far removed from a 'fourth estate' as you could get.

It's not a question of whether China is blameless. I don't think anyone is "defending" China, or blaming anyone else. It's the timing and the politicising which is criticised. The fact is, despite all the claims and internet theories, that no-body yet knows all the facts about how, where and why the pandemic started. To really trace what happened takes time and systematic, calm, scientific analysis. In the meantime we need everyone helping. Diversionary blame games help no-one and may kill some. Agreed, political points scoring from any party, at this time, is imo outrageous I think there is little doubt where it started don't you?

A flat earther For example, in the plague that spread through Europe in the 14th century, it is reckoned that maybe one in three people died. Obviously, if we were facing something like that, it would be reasonable to take very extreme measures. But this is a disease that is maybe going to kill 0.3, 0.2 or 0.1 per cent of people that it infects. Without a lockdown this virulent disease could end up infecting everyone and the 0.3% of the population that could be killed amounts to 220,000 In my opinion the lockdown is worth it if it saves 200,000 lives
