Watford were never going to accept our offer for Sarr I am delighted however we got Butland over the line as I was beginning to lose all faith in Parish / Freedman

I think you are after my mantle of being the most argumentative person on the HOL. Ever thought of taking up yoga?

So we got Butland which I am pleased about but only because Stoke were desperate to get him off their books. Watford showed us that they didn't want to let Sarr go so it was never going to happen unless somebody made a huge offer, still no harm in trying. It occurs to me that it may not be over just yet. Now that the window has closed it is still possible that we may sign a free transfer I didn't look but have Welbeck and Wilshire signed for anyone yet?

My number 1 stalker decided to have a dig at me following a spat between Phil's Barber and Willo which as with most stalkers was based on untruths. He stated that he suffered himself at my hands & will probably continue to do so unless he reported him/her. The actual truth is that he thinks that he is a barrack room lawyer and after continual carping about the moderation I sent him a PM stating that faced with the option of giving him a yellow for continually breaking the rules or quietly deleting his posts I opted for the latter which to my eyes means that he benefitted at my hands and not suffered. RRA77 is another who acts like an old woman (with sincere apologies to old women) holding grudges for ever more A year ago he made a rather daft comment that us football supporters shouldn't call ourselves that as we don't support the club financially. We are followers rather like camp followers that disappear at daytime. I responded to her comment rather robustly which she didn't like and as I said last night if she doesn't like robust arguments she should post on Mumsnet and not a football forum. I am not particularly argumentative but as I said last night I don't suffer fools gladly and as this is a football forum there are bound to be one or two about

I'm afraid I'm in complete agreement. The information I was given was that the sanctioned bid was not close to the value being reported. So...totally predictable. Make a bid that you know has little or no chance of succeeding. We pilloried Arsenal for doing the same with Wilf.

So one way of looking at this is he is overvalued in the new market We put a marker in the ground. We have a history of playing the long game. When his value is better recognised we shall return

So are you saying that the offer for Sarr wasn’t genuine ? The offer for Sarr was clearly testing Watfords resolve and if they had wanted or needed to sell then I have no doubt that we would have completed that purchase because £25m for Sarr would’ve been too good to not follow through with. This demonstrates we would’ve brought the right player in for the right money, even without moving any other players on. The focus however should still be on finding the next Sarr, Zaha, Richarlison, Benrahma, Watkins or AWB, rather than paying top dollar for the finished article.
