Back on thread, so still no striker/ attacking midfielder. This will eventually be our downfall but it seems we are not prepared to spend what is necessary

Im not panicking, but do you honestly believe Eze will ever play as number 10 under Roy?
Roy loves Ayew too, cant see him being dropped either.

The club havent even told us the situation of Ferguson. very frustrating.

I have this feeling that Roy might start Bats with Wilf against Brighton and go at them in the first half before bringing on Ayew. The guy needs a rest after his Ghana heroics, plus Bats got a goal against Ivory Coast last week and was rested in their last match.

Agreed. Don’t get why we’re chasing a winger! . Reportedly!

Whilst I’m completely in agreement in the need for a couple more attacking options, I would defend the club in that there is a difference between paying what is necessary and overpaying, which I would argue several of our linked transfer targets have gone for or been quoted as wanting.

As an example, would you have paid £40m for Sarr or £30+m for Watkins?

Eze I think is good value, the others like Sarr feel like too much of a risk and I don’t blame the club for not overpaying, especially in the current climate.

I concur, pretty much how I see it too.

We can’t go round spunking £30m on Benrahma or £40m for Sarr. We have to improve our scouting in the layers before;

Vardy - Bought by Leicester from Fleetwood for £1m
Mahrez - Bought by Leicester from Le Havre for £450k
Watkins - Bought by Brentford from Exeter City for £1.8m
Maddison - Bought by Norwich from Coventry for £2.39m
Benrahma - Bought by Brentford from Nice for £1.53m
Kante - Bought by Leicester from Caen for £8.1m
The list goes on...

And we could have signed Watkins last year for £10m

Typical Palace end of window.
Strongly linked with attacking players such as Behnrama and Sarr we potentially end up Clyne and Butland at minimal cost.
On the face of it disappointing, but they have both been very good players in the past.
Long term fans know the strengths of Clyne and I’ve been impressed with Butland when I’ve seen him live as a physically commanding goalkeeper with all the requisite skills.
The question is whether they can reproduce their form as neither have done much in the last few years.
We’ve also kept our powder dry for the January window if necessary.
I would say 6 out 10 for the window at this stage, but could be an 8 out of 10 .

You missed Guaita off you list, Bolasie £500k sold for £26m. Your post lacked any balance.

Not every player from lower leagues are gems, they are hard to find.

With the club losing £3-£4m a month due to stadium closures. We were never going to buy anyone else, unless a few players moved out.

My only disappointment in this window is that we didn't get a dominant midfielder.

For all our numbers in the middle of the park, I don't see a player with a presence and a personality. I liked the ex Saints guy Lemina (as a type, although his reputation is that he's a cock so not actually him).

I would rather have had the Chelsea boy Gallagher than Batshuayi. Even on loan.

I know people say Clyne is a crock and a has has been, but I believe he will prove the shrewdest signing of them all.

Then we added flair, youth and energy with Eze, and goals with Bats (i just don't believe he is great value at all).

If we got Butland...all good. I wouldn't read too much into his status at Stoke.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

I specifically didn’t include free transfers (Guaita) as they tend to be end of contract deals and as such often include a ‘signing on fee’ which isn’t always transparent.
Bolasie is an excellent example of us scouting somebody from the lower leagues for an extremely reasonable fee and unearthing (or developing) a gem. We just need to be better at it and try and emulate the recent scouting success of clubs such as Wolves, Bournemouth, Leicester & Brentford, to name but a few.

So are you saying that the offer for Sarr wasn’t genuine ?
