So here's my view. Parish, reluctantly, will sack Roy. But not until a replacement has been lined up. And I think that's the sticking point at the moment. And hence the silence from Parish. Sounds as accurate a prediction as I could muster. I would suspect that if Parish had a plan we would have seen in enacted by now but I'd not be surprised if he were working, albeit unsuccessfully, on one right now.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

It's been suggested that both Potter and Cooper have turned us down. The old adage however is that things change very quickly in football. Nevertheless, I can't imagine Potter here - just a feeling.

If I was either of those, I'd much rather kick back for a couple of months and take the job in the summer if we survive.

Potter probably has more to lose than Cooper. He was heralded as the next big thing before walking into the asylum that is Chelsea. He may see himself as having a chance of the West Ham job if Moyes' contract is not renewed this summer, or possibly even the England job. Cooper would probably have fewer options in the PL. It may be a case that if he wants another PL job a situation like ours gives him the best opportunity. Wait until the summer and Parish might have more options. Parish's history of offering big bonuses for avoiding relegation would surely be a big incentive for lots of managers too. A million or two for a third of a season's work. By the way, I'm not suggesting Cooper is the next messiah, I'm just suggesting that were Parish to sack Roy he seems the obvious candidate.

If Roy does go then I think we should go for a war manager rather than a permanent fixture. It would be better for the players to think he was staying, but a short contract with a survival bonus might attract a bigger fish. The danger is that we bring in a rising star who turns out to be out of his depth in a Premier League survival scrap. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (05 Feb 2024 12.46pm)

Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (05 Feb 2024 12.46pm) I'd love to entertain the dream of a more romantic and longer term story but this is how I see it too. My only concern is the longer term/next season however that will be of no value if we carry on with this form, into the C'ship.

We don’t need a Nathan Jones, we need a Big Sam.

I very much suspect that had Eze and Olise played regularly this season and Doucoure hadn't suffered a long-term injury, there would have been no debate apropos the tenure of the manager and no protests aimed at the Board and Steve Parish. Mr Hodgson is of course fully aware of the feelings of our supporters and I can only conclude that it must be hurtful and discomforting for him. I recognise his achievements in ensuring we have stayed in the PL season on season and whenever he does depart he can do so with his head held high.
