It seems highly improbable, but Paolo Fonseca is a name that always crops up. Lille are flying, have tuned a profit on transfers the last three seasons and he plays an attractive brand of football and has shown he can adapt his formation and style to suit the challenges posed. Plus his contract is up in the summer, I think. Like I say, it seems improbable, but it would certainly be the sexy appointment!! A far better coach than Cooper and by all accounts the club's top target (certainly was last summer). I'd accept keeping Roy for the rest of the season if it meant we could get him. Hopefully the club are hard at work tapping him up and lying to him that he'll get a few quid to spend

So who, realistically, would you suggest to replace Roy when the time comes? Good morning , and to answer your question , i dont have a crystal ball or balls , Cooper may well be the answer to all our prayers and do better with a smaller squad and younger players , who knows . I would prefer to see a manager with a big personality and a touch of arrogance that rubs off on the players and gives them the, fvck you attitude we dont care who you are you come here your gonna get a game we used to have , and not park a bus every time we play a top 5 team. If i had to put a name or two forward i would say Julen Lopetegui Paolo Fonseca , even Potter .

I thought Cooper turned our job down while at Swansea ? Anyway, I'm far from convinced by him myself. Hamstrung to an extent by Forest's transfer policy. I think he could be another of those managers effective up to but not including Premier League level.

Appointing him would be a gamble, as would seeing out Roy's contract wihtout backing him in the transfer window Edited by madcap_v2 (20 Dec 2023 4.54pm)

Forest are only 3 points off us and have sacked their manager, apparently they've had a terrible season so far. I'm not sure what that says about us and Roy Hodgson. I don't think it says anything about us at all, but if it did it might not be negative. On one hand, obviously every club sacks managers sometimes, Palace very much included. Sometimes it proves to be a good idea, sometimes not. One of the reasons Palace have stayed up for so long is that not only are there almost always at least two or three worse teams than us, but there are also very often two or three flailing, imploding clubs as well. Our relative stability on and off the pitch has been more of a positive than a negative on that context. If the incoming forest manager doesn't get a notable upturn in results quite quickly, they will be under huge pressure, which will seep into every part of the team and club. So many relegated clubs have three managers over the course of the season - and it's far more a case of rolling the dice than of corrective surgery. I'd be in favour of stability, personally.

A whole lot of stuff can change for the better in 2024. It’s been a crap period , it really could not have been much worse. I suspect we have suffered from a gamble gone wrong, in the shape of no significant changes to the squad of last year. The injury count has been the biggest culprit, and that old fetcher of win and loss, rub of the green , especially if referee performances count as part of that.

I echo your sentiments. We are obviously carefully considering our options post Roy when he retires as manager at the end of this season.

I don't want Cooper but did feel that he got lumbered with an owner who was spending money like a kid in a sweet shop.
