I’m scratching my head at those advocating selling my player of the year last year, Anderson, to be replaced by a player none of us have seen (or in my case even heard of ), Per Schurrs.
There may be details I’m unaware of e.g Anderson wants to leave, Newcastle have made an unbelievable offer , but otherwise it makes no sense to me.
Anderson and Guehi have formed an excellent partnership giving us a solid foundation to play from the back and give our flair players a platform to flourish.
Neither of their contracts are expiring so there isn’t a pressure to sell and Anderson is the best long passer at the club and best defensive header of a ball.
Why throw this away for an unproven youngster who has never played in the Premier League and has to be considered a risk as well as having the effect of breaking up a successful partnership.
Some our saying Schurrs is a few years younger than Anderson; with that logic does that mean we should replace Eze with a player a few years younger?

Exactly. We should be looking to improve the squad we have unless someone specifically ask to go.

We should be pushing for the next level ie. Europe.

The critical point here is one of age and future value of the player. Andersen is at his peak age and it is unlikely his value will increase. Eze (and for that matter Guehi) can still improve and be worth more to us if we hold on to them for another year or two.

Whether we fans like it or not, PL football is more a business than a sport these days and the club have to weigh up the pros and cons of keeping/selling a player.

Like you, I'd never heard of Schurrs before I saw the clickbait articles. However, if the recruitment team who picked out Guehi and Andersen think that Schurrs can do the job then I'm inclined to trust them.

All this is true and well said. Anderson if he did go would be a huge loss. However if a club like Newcastle want him, for a substantial fee, then it's 'good business'. Hope he stays though

Perhaps the best piece of news for my ears - We've contracted Caleb Kporha.

His birthday today (15/7), he's now 17.

As a right side fullback,, and along with Mofe Jemide (16) and Jake Grante (17), the two centre backs to his left, as well as attacking midfielder David Obou (already contracted in response to Bayern/Eindhoven interest- about a year ago); I personally rate him, Caleb, as one of the top players within our youth system. IMO, If his progression stays on track, he will be the ultimate answer to each and every omnipresent "We need a new right back" thread over the last ten years. An automatic starter on our 18s, he started 2 (Citeh, bindippers) last year as a 16yo for our 21s.

Caleb has already outplayed the 18s level, and I expect him, along with Nofe, Jake, and David to be banging on the u21s door shortly.

Just my opinion, but pleased as punch to see Caleb contracted.

Correct, unfortunately, but sadly correct

Been told that we have made a further bid of €18m with a further €7m add-ons 5 year contract agreed with option of a further year.

Deal should be accepted & completed by end of next week.

Zaha announcement next week also.

Could be a big week next week.

Unfortunately Anderson could be gone if so Schuurs will sign.

CHO or Gray is looking promising.

Also hearing we are back in for Boey & enquired about Dest as possible RB.

Striker will likely be loan to buy.

Hi Dazza I'm assuming the 18m€ is for Matheus Franca?

I think it’s generally accepted that the club have limited resources.
In which case I find it strange that we potentially will spend around £20 million on Franca , reputedly an attacking midfield player of flair, when we already have Eze, Olise and Ahamada to fulfil the role.
It’s not that I’m against signing him, but it’s a question of priorities and you would think that with scant resources the £20 million could happily contribute to the purchase of a proper striker instead where we have a glaring gap.
I also note that we are now being linked with the purchase of a right back.
Quite happy with this as it’s a necessity.
But it does beg the question why we have just extended the contracts of 3 right backs in Ward, Clyne and Ferguson.
I’m not being negative or critical, just trying to understand the logic .
