It's how the MPs themselves interpret it which matters. If the people want that to change, then they change the MPs.

Or they cling onto an outdated view based on one person's view from 250 years ago.

Are you trolling me or something? It doesn't address the issues I raised anyway other than waffle away like a Instagram girl's wishlist.

Sending me a lot of waffle about what the 'International community' (international elites) want....meaning that should dictate national policy.

Have you heard of something called Brexit? Seems you still have some wax in your ears from 2016.

Out of respect I won't say exactly what I think of that text, but let me assure you it wouldn't be out of charm school.

What a very strange post

No matter

I think it has been established that borders are leaky things. It makes sense to work to stop flows by making it unattractive to do the journey. We can always try the old barbed wire on every beach ploy. But also help other countries to be reasonable places to live.

We live in a global world, which is of course a tautology.

We could start by placing the barbed wire on the French beaches or the French could actually start wanting to stop these people travelling

I am certainly in favour of PR and for more people to be engaged and believing that their vote counts. It may well arrive after the next GE.

It would definitely make more sense for many, and would change voting patterns when it's not essentially a choice between two!

Out of curiousity what do you feel would be their motivation for stopping them. They appear to have crunched the numbers and made their choice!

We have always lived in a global world.

I've said it many times Japan stands out as a first world country that has taken a radically different approach to your ideas.

While they have issues they have a better standard of living to us.....most of the arguments used for high immigration into Europe have simply been half truths and agenda driven.

Inflation -
Jap: 0.7%
UK: 9.0%

GDP per capita growth -
Jap: 0.99%
UK: 0.73%

Unemployment -
Jap: 2.7%
UK: 3.8%

New dwelling construction starts -
Jap: 856k
UK: 167k

They have, for years, allowed camps to develop. They could have processed asylum applications but chose not to.
In a strange way I do not blame the French, as it must be a vote winner knowing they do not want to stay in France and allowing them to attempt the Channel crossing.
The big issue ( no pun intended) is that if these were genuine refugees they could seek asylum in any of the countries they had travelled through. Unless of course those are deemed unsafe. Surely not in the great EU

There's no such thing as a free lunch. "With a median age of 48.4 years, Japan's population is the oldest in the world. In stores across the country, adult diapers now outsell baby diapers by 2.5 times.

It’s also a shrinking country, with its population of 127 million expected to contract by over a quarter by 2065."

There are immense pressures on the young which will become much worse. Perhaps automation will help, but it does seem likely that immigration will increase significantly over the coming decades. To what extent is clearly an unknown, though it doesn't pay to lean on idealised emotion led comfort blankets of afar due to concerns about our own identity. Most here don't think we 'need' more immigration anyway, it's simply the government with their hand on those lever. That is the issue.

That's exactly what I mean really, that don't want to solve the problem and would rather it be someone elses.

I always saw being an Island nation as a plus, but in the current climate its certainly easier to nudge people on to another connected country or off in a boat never be to seen again. We've become a 'final destination ' (so to speak) so are coming up with rather creative and out of the box solutions. No easy answers of course.

Why not offer everyone relocation to Rwanda? Someone might find it tempting. Then set up a gofundme page. Job done.

On the contrary asylum seekers sent to Rwanda previously were re-trafficked back to the UK and EU.

And the UK will now be taking Rwanda's asylum seekers deemed 'vulnerable' while at the same time declaring Rwanda a safe destination.
