Think a draw flatters England.

Aussies were better team for 70% of the sessions this series but not complaining.

Love Ashes cricket. Would just love to see us be competitive down under.

It's a cogent point, because in amongst the hype we have the stark differences between how our touring side performed and how they have.

I certainly think in Archer, Wood and Stone we have a pace attack to fear. Trouble is catching them fit for long enough. Batting is another matter, however history says that batsmen with no previous can excel (thinking that Chris Broad series way back) on a first tour there. Not often though. We had a great day at the Oval today. It was hard work for England but they stuck at it.

England and Australia have shown some resilience when up against it in this series. But both have not got a settled batting unit. Bowling wise - both seem to have options.

Lets not forget the sandpaper 3 received their lengthy bans for cheating in one match in 'seth efrica'.
Only those involved (probably all the team and management ) will know how long they had been at it.
The England touring team in the last ashes out there certainly had their suspicions.
Look at Starcs figures since they were rumbled. Fallen off a cliff and can hardly get a game now.
Smith is a great batsman. He also oversaw, as captain, a massively tainted period of aussie cricket. Same goes for Lehman who seems to have got off scot free .
People say we should move on as they have served there bans etc. And they have. But only for that one instance.
Smith forever tainted in my eyes as a person.

Interesting points, never thought about Starc's figures.....Lehman seemed to 'old man' his way out of taking any blame. Warner seemed to shoulder most of it with Bancroft almost portrayed as the put upon innocent.....though really the buck stopped with Smith.

I agree....it's unlikely that it was the only time.

Interesting discussion and good observation re Starc. I guess we will never know, but in all walks of life people make mistakes. I think they deserve a second chance. Smith has certainly benefitted from the break. Warner has not and if he has a poor home series next time his red ball career may be over. What may save him is the English disease of lack of alternatives.

I wonder whether Warner struggled slightly with the Duke ball.

The Duke certainly needs a heavier grade of sandpaper

Smith is getting his second chance Bexley.
My point is that the cheating was much longer than he has claimed.
I think the truth will come out one day. That amount of people cannot keep a secret forever. My money will be on Warner breaking ranks.
Having just returned the worst ever figures for an opener in a 5 match test series it will be interesting if he is jettisoned having had to take the bulk of the blame.

One big difference between Australia and England is that the Australian state teams are all Australian qualified whereas the English first class game has too many foreigners playing and some teams on the South Coast seem to have more Saffers than English qualified players

Interesting debate following on from what has been an excellent and enjoyable summer of cricket. Shame I am not looking forward to next summer with so much relish with the Hundred making its bow. I haven’t spoken to anyone yet who is actually looking forward to its inception or can be bothered with it.
As for the England team I think all those that played yesterday have done enough to warrant a place on tour (most by the skin of their teeth). Butler should bat at 7 in the “Adam Gilchrist role” and be given the gloves. Bairstow should be told you are being played as a batsmen in the top 6 and need to score runs. If you don’t you are out.
Ollie Pope should be introduced to the team at 6 (and pray he is a huge success at we need someone else to be averaging near 50 in our batting unit). Sibley should be taken as cover for the openers. I would prefer Root at 4, however with the lack of viable options at 3 I think he has to stay there. Even though we drew the test series I still think there are more questions than answers with the makeup of the team.
