Well, firstly I do think he has had some part in that resurgence, albeit not in the obvious way I suppose. And secondly that resurgence could be the source of renewed confidence for him, I hope. Let's hope that his improved form leads to a flurry of goals. At the end of the day he scored 15 PL goals for us last season so we know what he can do - just hasn't delivered on the goalscoring front this season which is disappointing and frustrating. You don't seem to understand what I'm saying, the two players in question are the two players who have massively underperformed this season, however one of the players is our most expensive signing in the history of the club and highest earner, the other is one of our lowest earners at the club and only cost 3mill. I've never moaned about Hennessey for those reasons even though his performances have been equally as bad as bentekes. You also can't fault henessey s attitude and commitment, I can't say the same about benteke. You clearly know very little about football. Hennessey just got named in the team of the week and has put in some great, some solid performances this season, and kept clean sheets.

Edited by Willo (16 Jan 2018 9.29pm) Exactly. And that feeling can be self-perpetuating, can't it? It's as natural as anything to say that the goal count is the be all and end all of a striker's life, but if you stopped worrying about being "a striker" and just tried to do a good shift to make sure we won, that would breed confidence I think and turn it around. Fraizer Campbell never scored many goals but he worked his socks off, helped to see out games (notably the one at Anfield when Grujic assaulted Tomkins) and never particularly looked in danger of mental illness. I don't think he defined himself as "a striker". What are we using for a sports psychologist these days? I remember Allardyce used one but Hodgson might be a bit more stiff upper lip than that. I don’t understand why a full international footballer, who’s main strength is heading, runs in a straight line through the middle of the penalty box and hopes the ball will land on his head. Even strikers over the local park peel off to the back post then dart to the front post or check their run to try to lose the Center back. He just runs next to the Center half. He seems to switch off. Look at the replay of the Sako pen appeal but watch Benteke rather than the foul. He completely stops running rather than heading for the box - which is where he needed to be if there was going to be a deflection or spilt shot. Its strange whatever is going on in his brain he's not a natural poacher, that's for sure. I do think he played well on Saturday, except when it came to the thing he's gonna be measured by. Scoring goals. Unfortunately the Chinese are not really buying anymore so I doubt that is going to be an option.

Edited by chateauferret (16 Jan 2018 9.39pm) In terms of strikers with a high workrate, I mention Stuart Beavon who plays for Coventry, signed from Burton Albion on a 'Free' by Russell Slade. He never scored that many goals for Burton Albion but he is one of their most popular players ever due to his harrying and chasing and the assists he provided.

This has been my main point throughout the thread, the lack of goals wouldn't be such a issue if he had a high workrate. I've posted too much haha just repeating myself now, I don't want to turn this into a youngpalacefan thread if you know what I mean willo

GET A f***ING GRIP Originally posted by chateauferret
Oh yes, "I go to the match, you can't". Actually they have these things called editors who are quite good at making sure you see what's important. I could equally argue that you are 100 miles away in a stand and would need a telescope to see what I can see on the screen, but what would be the point? Your argument isn't motivated by anything objective, if it were it would have balance. Like many on here, you've decided you hate the player and now you only look for evidence that supports that position. It's a good thing Hodgson's mind doesn't work like that. If I say your remarks cause me offence, then they cause me offence. Calling it "banter" is just an excuse for bad behaviour. I think I've made a couple of reasoned and balanced comments about him and said what was good and what was not about his play. Did you see my joke the other day about his being arrested for loitering? Whereas you only have one thing to say and you can't back it up with any argument better than "you're in Scotland so you know nothing". Now if you had played football much I assume you would have some sense of what it felt like to be in a period of poor form, to have folk on your back, to lose your confidence and energy. Yet you speak as if these are pieces of defective machinery which should be sent back to the shop for a refund. And I'm far too old to have an English GCSE.

The way that he was through on the middle of the goal against Burnley and decided to take it wide (thought that was the keepers/defenders job) then didn’t hit the target was pathetic.

Looking at Benteke's PL record he has had 455 shots but only 174 have been on target, an accuracy of 38%.

This has happened quite a few times this season and it's infuriating watching a £30 mil, £130k a week or whatever striker keep doing it.
