It makes perfect sense to me. It's like having a car worth 10k but it has no wheels. You can either sell the car for 5k as it is or put 500 quid into buying new wheels and sell it for 10k.

Conor is an asset that the club have put a lot of money into so why would they just let his contract run down and he goes for free. If he happens to score 10+ goals next season then it is win win situation. We can either keep him or recoup a good chunk of the cash that went into him. Right now he isnt worth tuppence as he has hardly played for 2 years.

Yes, but it has to be a runner. You wouldn't pay ten grand to push a car to a garage and not be able to use it for a year.

What I found funny a few months back was that the club released a video, or even short documentary if you will, showing the agonising, long, lonely hours Benteke spent trying to get back to fitness after his knee operations and injuries. It was clearly a move from Parish and his public relations background to get the supporters heart strings strumming and on his side after falling out of favour with the majority of the fan base, but they never did it for Wickham. Is it because he's not working as hard or they're not interested in doing the same promo videos for him?

Hmm, well, perhaps I'm making mountains, curious though.

Nobody could remember Wickham even playing for us. Whereas we had to watch Benteke missing on a few occasions. I can't remember what Wickham looks like. I guess he's the one with the crutches.

Fans of course have a perfect right to waffle on the perceived rights and wrongs of every club decision.

Back a few seasons ago on Hol there was talk of an offer for Zaha of 10 million and I distinctly remember a poster saying we should rip their arm off and get rid.

Essentially I'll wait and see on Wickham.....older players can sometimes get physically stronger and overcome their previous injuries.

Can anyone name a player with similar long term injuries who ever came back and had a successful career?

Could be that Wickham was already into his lengthy comeback, and that was what gave them idea. Benteke's injury meant they could capture the whole process of rehab from start to finish.

Could also be that Wickham was uncomfortable with the idea of cameras following him around as he's injured. You hear plenty of athletes talk about the agony of being injured and not part of the team, easy to imagine that someone would not want that captured on camera as well.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Let's sign the now available Andy Carroll. He can keep Connor company in the treatment room and maybe they can go on jaunts to Dubai together.

Potentially the shortest lived strike partnership ever. They would probably rack up perhaps 90 mins a season between them.

I like Wickham and was really pleased when we signed him.
There's a player in there (somewhere) and it's a shame that we've not seen his true potential, for him also. Bit-parts here and there but never a serious run over a season.
Whatever the reasons it's been a shame for both parties.
