Continuing that list: Lombardo/Mancini, Moyes or Karanka. If Silva went back to Porto, then perhaps we go for Jovanovic? Failing that I hope SP finds a gem from the continent. I really can't think of any decent British managers who are available. Yes to Jokanovic. Not many other names spring to mind. Definite no to Coleman. My one worry is we currently suit the direct style of play ala Pulis and Allardyce. Recent attempts at a change of style have been miserable. 'If' we do change direction we need a new manager sharpish, an almighty summer transfer window and a very decent off-season to bed in the tactics. That sounds like an almighty task!

Jesus, I don't think I've got the strength for this. As long as he doesn't reappear at another club next season then good luck to him, can hardly blame him for being sick of managing and wanting time with his family. Thanks for keeping us up Sam and good luck with your retirement.

Shocking! What a bombshell, but I think his words are sincere. In the early days I never felt his heart was in it, and I initially thought he may have lost his touch, a thought which has been proved wrong. Now he has done his job and he has got his bonus, you cant blame him for wanting to retire. At least he has done it in the best way, leaving us with plenty of time to find a new manager, unlike Pulis!

I hope this is the real reason, it does seem to be genuine. We have been screwed many times before so forgive me for still thinking he will be back in football a lot sooner than we may think. If true, the saving grace could be that we hold on to the backroom staff, especially Sammy Lee. And SP should make sure any new manager does the same. Another long summer ahead

When we brought Sam in I thought - and indeed hoped back then - that it would only be until the end of the season. Now he has been here a while, I would have preferred him to stay, but so be it. Ultimately he got the job done although there must have been times when he thought he wasn't going to pull it off this time. So I respect his decision and we can only thank him for enabling us to stay in the top flight.

I fear some scandal or allegations of somesort will come out in the near future and they have agreed to part ways now. Something ain't right about it all.

If we appoint someone quickly, that will only bear out the theory. Edited by Cucking Funt (24 May 2017 12.10am)

We should be careful what we say we don't have all the facts. big Sam might be ill. Maybe he doesn't think he can cope. We don't know enough and it won't make any difference anyway. Just feel deflated. Feels like we never get a break

Absolutely gutted. He is the safe pair of hands that we crave here so much. And he seemed to fit in and be loving it Palace. Where do we go from here? Who knows. At least we've got the whole Pre season and another season in the prem to look forward to. Thanks Sam and good luck.

Edited by Cucking Funt (24 May 2017 12.10am) I think we would have picked up on it if it was a mutually agreed intention for him to do a job and then do one. Felt like he was part of this and here for a while. Unlike Pullis for example.

Sam has done the job he was hired to do and has done it well. Who is to blame him for wanting to retire with his £3 million bonus?

Couldn't blame him for wanting to f*** it all off though after the year he's had. Bare in mind this has happened pretty much in a year. Kept Sunderland up against the odds. Gets the England job because of his ability to get teams to fight for each other and get results. Loses England job after being stitched up after being in charge for one game. Keeps us up against the odds and comes out smelling of roses. He must be absolutely exhausted.
